Hello, friends and neighbors!

I'm Matt Strenger, a.k.a. The Black Hat Baker, and I am all about three things- baking, fitness, and writing.

For the last few years, besides being a professional baker and cook, I've been writing a blog called "On The Bench- Reps, Rolling Pins, and Building A Better Baker." It started as a simple feed to keep people up to date on the doings of a small contract-baking business I was running out of my home kitchen. Since then, the blog has evolved and outlived the business it was meant to support. Inspired by my colleagues in the kitchen and the questions of my readers,  I write about baking, cooking, life in the culinary industry, exercise, and living well roughly once a week. I've covered homebrewing, at-home fitness, dieting, education, philosophy- the works.

This is one of the best things ever- I love chatting and telling stories while I work, so you can enjoy them and keep me company while I bake in my kitchen in Portland, OR!

At this level, on top of all the other tier rewards, you will get access to Bakeshop 911.

Bakeshop 911 is exactly what you think it is. For your support, you will get something I normally only offer up to friends and family- the ability to IM or message me with baking questions. 

Why did your dough not rise? Why is your pie burning on the bottom? Why did your cookies come out melty and gross?
I've got some background in this, and can help you work backwards to figure it out! 


There's a COUPLE of limits on this one though:

- only 10 patrons at this level, so I can keep everything straight.

- Maximum 3 sessions per person per month.

- A session consists of a 3 questions and an answers on a SPECIFIC topic. (I.e. "I am having trouble with THIS recipe.")

- All of this is subject to my judgement- I can't be on the phone all day!

The Apprentice
$50 or more per month 0 of 4 patrons
Wow. Just... wow. You realize I'm JUST a writer and baker, right? You are absolutely incredible... Thank you so much for helping me do more!


At this tier, on top of everything else, once a month, you get a one-on-one, 90 minute Skype session with me.
What will the 90 minutes be? A lesson? A Q+A? Workshopping some writing, or just an online beer together- chatting and stories? That's up to you! 


Within reason, obviously.
