THANK YOU!

Before I plunge into the whole background and future plans of the site, and more importantly what your contribution will mean to the future development of thereviewgeek, I want to reach out and thank everyone who's supported the site over the past 18 months. Without you guys it wouldn't be what it is and seeing the site grow from strength to strength is something that's been incredibly exciting.

THE ORIGIN STORY

18 months ago I plunged into the world of reviewing after getting fed up with vague reviews just highlighting the outline of a show and worse - reviews that spoilt the entire plot. With a background of critiquing, studying film and media in college as well as experience producing and managing music, I launched thereviewgeek.com as a way to give back to the community and fill that gap missing in mainstream media.

I started doing gaming reviews that actually utilised a 1-10 score fairly. Full season TV show reviews rather than a single episode (growing to include episode reviews as well after several requests), spoiler-free film reviews and album reviews. All of this whilst giving a more fan-centric perspective mixed with a bit of a critical eye.

The result? The site has grown from strength to strength and what begun as a hobby has quickly grown into a busy, demanding review site. With that, came demands on server space and having to invest heavily on bandwidth and start putting some serious cash into keeping the site afloat.

I loathe advertisements as much as the next person but with the demands of the site, it's becoming increasingly difficult to sustain the numbers without resorting to funding the site. I'd rather not have to do that if I'm honest.

A ONE MAN BAND

Unlike other sites it's just me. There's no big army of reviewers behind me and at present, I work full time + overtime and watch/game for around 5 hours to keep up with the demanding schedules. I invest a large chunk of my disposable income into playing and watching as much as I can.

I love the challenge but it's also extremely time consuming and costly to continue on at the pace I have been.

WHY DONATE?

Your donation will mean more time dedicated to the site instead of working overtime to fuel the site which in turn will increase the amount of backlog we can get through and free up time to begin video essays and reviews on youtube to accompany my written posts.

I'll share my opinion on shows before uploading the reviews, give personal recommendations for new content to watch depending on your specific tastes and endeavour to front-line any request for shows or reviews to the front of the ever-growing list of content.

The possibilities for the future growth of the website are huge and once again, thank you to every single person who's been part of that journey so far.

For now, I'm sticking with a single contribution.

Your donation will allow me to invest in the website, any recommendations for reviews will be front-lined and uploaded within a week (with your name displayed with a "requested by" before it) and allow us to start working on video reviews.
