About Vida Muerta - Model and Cosplayer

Why modeling/cosplay?

The online home of the cosplayer and model otherwise known as Lady Vida Muerta. A published editorial model and occasional cosplayer and reenactor, she is always seeking to find new ways of pushing the boundaries of what is available for models who do not easily sort into the tidy premade boxes the industry provides. Coming to the art form in her late 30s, she has approached every project with the desire to tell a story in collaboration with the photographers she works with.

Beginning with her first shoot with Laura Dark, every set has had some underlying theme or aspect of her inner monologue and life to address. From capturing the way others see her as a commentary on the negative narrative women carry in their heads to making beauty from the emotional scars from past relationships, her goal is to encourage people to talk and to look at themselves in a more compassionate light. She also wants to use her art to tell stories about the preciousness of the natural world and raise funds to meet various social and environmental crises.

What's with the name?

One year, I went to Origins and was the +1 for a good friend of mine, Kirk Hardtle. Instead of using my given name, he put Vida Muerta on my badge, presumably because I am a Goth girl at heart and he thinks he is clever. It amused me, so I kept the name. Now, looking back, it is also a symbol of my rebirth and continued cycles of growth as a person and as an artist. I am constantly discarding that which no longer serves me, dying over and over to a past that I no longer need to cling to.

So it still fits...and it still amuses me.

When I reach $50 per month, I will be able to participate in quarterly group shoots or progress towards the bigger, more high concept shoots.
