What are the aims of WW2TV?

To maintain a regularly updated YouTube channel of battlefield livestreams, interviews and panel discussions for everyone interested in The Second World War.

WW2 Battlefield Livestreams

As the inevitable march of time sees battlefields gradually lost to progress WW2TV will preserve them on film via our live shows - direct from the battlefields.

Having spent 2 decades guiding visitors around the Normandy battlefields. I am now bringing the battlefields to your home, wherever you may be. You will be able to run up the landing beaches, battle through the hedgerows, traverse fields and towns and see what the men of WW2 saw - all free of charge. On the live shows, you will also be able to interact with me and my guest historians via the live comments section on YouTube.

Giving a voice to Historians

There are many historians, authors, tour guides and arm-chair battlefield experts currently without a global voice for their work. Many TV companies will not use these passionate and knowledgeable people. WW2TV will provide a platform for these people to share their stories in interviews, films and features.

YouTube and Patreon

I am adamant that every film and livestream I create will be free to all on YouTube. It is important to me that everyone should have access good WW2 content without paying for a subscription. However that goes against the advice of most successful Patreon users that suggest that exclusive and extra content should be reserved for people who donate. The issue of course, is if people can access everything I produce without spending a penny, why should they become a Patron?

My answer to that is that no-one "owns" history. Our shared past shapes both our present and our future. Of course, purchasing history books costs money and studying history at University can be expensive, and travelling the World and visiting battlefields is also beyond the means of many. But these days, most of the English-speaking World has access to the internet. Sharing content freely on YouTube is an easy and inclusive way to get people interested in the past. The WW2TV shows are for young people in schools and colleges, relatives of veterans who participated in the conflict, travel-fans, arm-chair generals and history-buffs alike.

However, creating this content takes time and money. A typical livestream of 90 minutes is the result of at least a week of work. This might involve recce trips to the battlefield, e-mails, phone calls, preparing photos and maps and general prepping. For the proper documentary films I have invested in cameras and stabilisers, microphones and lights and I need to pay for subscriptions to Adobe Premier Pro, Zoom, for my website hosting and various other regular expenses.

I really hope that people reading this will applaud my insistence on keeping this content free to all but that those that can afford to contribute financially, will do so to enable me to create more content.

You will find several options or "tiers" for support, or you can pledge an amount of your own choice. Click "Become a Patron" and then "Make a Custom Pledge."

Thank you for being a part of preserving the stories and battlefields of the Second World War.
