Wrestling Theology Fellowship is a monthly professional wrestling show that takes place in a Church in Carmel, IN. We mix a top notch, athletic wrestling show with our mission to spread faith, hope, and love in the community. We also film our shows and post them online. We are looking to grow our promotion to the next level and we hope you believe in our vision as much as we do. We also have a bigger vision that involves getting charities like Make-A-Wish (among others) involved in our out reach. We would also like to be able to raise funds for those who are experiencing financial struggles in their lives, showing love to our community of wrestling fans in the name of Jesus Christ.

Our hope and vision is to make this bigger than just a wrestling show, and to change lives through the vessel of professional wrestling. We can also have a bigger impact world wide with our ability to stream our wrestling shows on the internet and share our faith with fans around the world. We are currently posting our videos online for an audience to see, but there is a cost to this with production and there is a need for some items to make the production look better and more attractive to the eye of a fan who may happen across our shows online. The more professional we look, the more apt the fans will watch and see us living our life on mission when we have a missional moment on the show.

We are also looking to develop another form of a world wide community developing tool in Fantasy Wrestling. Founder of Wrestling Theology Fellowship, Rich Abbott, created a way to score televised WWE shows, much like Fantasy Football. Rich has been running a fantasy league with local friends to help build the community locally for the past 2 years. This would continue to grow a bond within the community on larger platform and we would like to try to get this out there in the world as well, as another tool to share faith, hope and love with the masses.

Our Mission Statement:
To build a community of wrestling fans and through wrestling spread the faith, hope, and love of Jesus.

A little background on Wrestling Theology Fellowship:
Wrestling Theology was started in 2015 after Rich Abbott went through a men’s discipleship huddle. During the huddle, Rich was talking about going to conventions to meet professional wrestlers and it was brought up that he should share his newfound faith in Jesus Christ through what he was obviously passionate about; and that is wrestling. Wrestling Theology began as a small group of wrestling fans, a mix of Christians and non-Christians, who met to watch WWE wrestling shows together and share conversations about life, faith, hope, love, and of course wrestling. The group that was meeting together to watch wrestling on TV started to go to local shows together as well and build a bond. This would sometimes put everyone in a long car ride with each other, and more conversations would spark out of these car rides. After a while of doing this, Wrestling Theology began to have a bigger vision, as more people can be reached through putting on events. Wrestling Theology Fellowship held their first event on February 21, 2016, when they brought in born again Christian wrestling legends, Lex Luger and Nikita Koloff for a Q &A event to be held at a local sports bar prior to a WWE show viewing party. Lex and Nikita grew Wrestling Theology’s reach and awareness that night, and shared a testimony of faith at the end of the event for all in attendance.

Public viewing parties became a common theme throughout 2016, and Wrestling Theology brought in Simon Dean, Jimmy Hart, and Kevin Thorn for Q & A and WWE tailgating events. The 80s-pants clothing line Zubaz became a sponsor and was sending pants for members and fans of events as well. Wrestling Theology was building a fan base from the events and viewing parties, going to the local shows in Zubaz gear, and spreading faith, hope, and love in the Wrestling Community. Wrestling Theology became an official outpost of Mercy Road church in 2016 as well.

In April of 2017, Wrestling Theology decided to make the next step, and that’s to hold their own wrestling event at Mercy Road Church, bringing in special guests, Bushwhacker Luke, Rosemary, Cody Deaner, and Ricardo Rodriguez. They found that building a team around an event of this proportion was helping strengthen the team’s bond and grow in further relationship to disciple. We also saw more new people start showing up to our viewing party events, and getting in close relationship and recruiting to the team.

Wrestling Theology has started to run monthly shows at Mercy Road church for Free admission with a suggested donation at the door with hopes that the team keeps building and the relationships keep happening. We have seen more and more people join our community of viewing parties and traveling to wrestling shows together, while continuing to share the message of faith, hope, and love. We record the shows and post them online for an audience worldwide to view them and hear the message of faith. Every show has an in-ring segment discussing faith to the crowd.

Some of the short term goals we hope to reach
Wrestling Theology Fellowship wants to give 50% or more of what is donated at the door for wrestling events to a charity or person in need at every event. In order for us to do this and be able to continue to pay the expenses for the shows going forward, we are looking to raise funds that will cover the cost of each event for the year ahead of time so we are not dependent to pay for the next event with the donations from the current one.

We are also looking to up our production value. We currently are paying a videographer to use his camera equipment, but can save money if we are able to purchase our own camera equipment. Rich Abbott went to school for film production and is able to do the video editing, but the computer he works on is also out dated and makes the job a difficult one. The lighting on on our events all come from the stage, causing the venue to look dark on video. This would look better with more lights from the other side of the ring. By purchasing our own profession camera, a new Mac editing computer, and lighting equipment to up the production value of the shows on video, more attention will be brought to the events, which in turn will bring attention to the missional moment of the shows where we can spread the love of Jesus Christ across a world wide platform via the internet.

An added note: If for some reason you would like to give and it matters, we can accept donations as a Non-Profit organization. Contact us at [email protected] for how to donate that route.
