Your support helps me create Argolicus Mysteries, fiction stories set in Ostrogoth Italy, and help aspiring authors write mystery fiction.

What I do:
I'm solidly ruined for any corporate ladder climb so I do what I'm good at which is write great mysteries and teach others everything I've taught myself about how it's done. You can still find all of my current material free:
** By slow email drip where you get insider publishing details, what I’m reading and watching, thoughts on overcoming adversity and generally everything I learned on my journey into publishing.
** By weekly video where you can find writing tips on issues and challenges in mystery writing. I solve real-life listener writing issues that run from procrastination to character points-of-view, go into hard-core story editing, and generally kick mystery writing in the butt one word at a time. It’s content for novelists and storyteller mystery writers who want to shortcut their way to cleaner, stronger, better writing.
** Write Time Blog where word by word you can find writing tips focused on creating a great mystery readers will love. From time to time you’ll find updates on my novel writing process and excerpts from current works in progress.

Why I’ve Chosen Patreon:
Creating for a living can bring a lot of uncertainty. As the publishing industry continues to change, my own uncertainty has reached an all time high and this has forced a few creativity-killing choices for the sake of paying the bills. I'd really like to reverse that trend and so I've come here to collaborate with:
** Anyone who appreciates the time investment that goes into creating the free material and would like to keep it coming,
** Readers, listeners, and curiosity seekers, who want to be involved in keeping the creativity flow alive,
** Fans and friends who love me and who, in place of taking me to real life coffee or dinner, would use this as a way to put a little slack into an otherwise austere author budget.
The most immediate goal is to try to get all expenses for hosting and servicing the websites, videos, and email streams self-sustaining. If funding goes beyond those basics I would like to bring THE GRAIN MERCHANT into print, and, then, begin work on the next novel,
How far we get will depend on the goals we reach.

What Patreon is and How it Works
: Once upon a time, way back when, nobility and aristocrats often kept artists and musicians on the castle payroll. In this [sometimes tumultuous] relationship the creator was free to create without worrying about selling his paintbrushes to pay for bread and, in exchange for paying the bills, the patron ended up with lots of cool artsy stuff to flaunt at both friends and enemies.
This kind of setup is what gave us those pretty pictures on the Sistine Chapel ceiling.
Lordships with castles have mostly since gone away but art patrons still exist. Today we call them philanthropists and they use words like endowments and don’t tend to focus on individual artists. Patronage is also how a lot of symphonies and museums stay funded, and they use high-rolling tight-circle words like society and friends of.
This site brings the patronage concept to a level the rest of us can afford. Here, with as little as a few dollars a month, fans who really love a writer, or artist, or musician, make it possible for creators to create without worrying about (figuratively) selling their paint brushes to (literally) pay for bread.

What You Get in Exchange*: My biggest challenge has been finding ways to provide value at each patronage level. Most writers and creators seem to do this by offering new exclusive content but since I labor over my work (read: I'm slow) and already give away the best of me for free, that doesn't leave much wiggle-room for coming up with more without eating into limited writing time which would defeat the whole purpose of setting this up. I've done my best to offer what I'm able based on what I thought might be of value to you. If there’s something else you'd appreciate instead, please tell me about it.
* It kind of goes without saying but long-term future rewards that may or may not materialize--such as not-yet-built programs or free copies of books that have yet to be published--are only able to distribute to patrons who are active at the time the reward becomes available.

Your pledge allows me to focus on creating the best - storytelling.
