While Zack initially reports being comfortable with his attraction to guys, we slowly learn how truly uncomfortable he really is. As the two grow closer, each is forced to embark on an existential journey to confront their own feelings on sexuality, attraction, labels, and the impact these have on the way they define themselves and the world around them. Along the line, we’ll meet a cast of supporting characters that will each challenge Zack and Braden in their own way as they try to put all the pieces of themselves together and come to terms with who they really are.In contrast to many NSFW games, Straight!? is a realistic "slow burn" where the primary focus is on dialogue and character development. While there is NSFW content, it is used to enhance the story and the character interactions and to openly deal with issues related to sexuality without censorship. Players commonly report beginning the game with intent to speed through to NSFW scenes, but then find themselves completely invested in the characters and the world around them.This story has everything. It’s an emotional rollercoaster with flawed and relatable characters full of sarcasm, humor, wit, triumph, and tragedy. It will ask very hard questions of the characters and the readers alike.<img src="https://i.imgur.com/Gg0fmWC.png" title="">Straight!? is my first attempt at game development with no previous art, coding, or storytelling experience. While it began as a side hobby back in 2017, the popularity of the story and characters eventually moved the project into full-time development in 2021.You can expect Straight!? to operate much differently than other visual novels and adult games. This story has sought to redefine the adult genre and openly ask: why can’t an adult game have a story that really changes you? With a background in clinical psychology, the writer uses interactions between the characters to explore difficult aspects of relationships including communication, sexual acceptance, stereotypes, and the complexity of existential identity, while keeping the narrative engrossing and fun to read. This doesn’t show the only way towards sexual self-acceptance, but it does show one stubborn and relentless character’s journey to accept and find peace within himself. This story will take you on a journey that you never expected to get from an adult game and it seeks to elevate the genre, exploiting the lack of censorship to improve the narrative.<img src="https://i.imgur.com/cr1XriO.png" title="">Straight!? is still actively in development and there are currently two versions of the project available:V0.021.4 is the original “rough draft” of the game and was finished in 2022. This version includes the full first draft of the story and begins developmentally “rough” from day one of its inception. This version progressively improves in writing and visual quality as the game unfolds and I gained more developmental experience. There is no sound or music. Some parts of this version include repeating scenes in which you must complete certain choices to progress. If you get stuck, this version includes a readme file with the walkthrough. The repeating scenes were phased out around Chapter 3 (Note: those are completely removed in the Revamp version). This version is no longer being updated and is viewed as practice. This version is denoted by “revamp” in the title and will progressively follow the story of the rough draft. If you’re new to the game, you should probably play the “rough draft” first before this version. This story covers some heavy material and I didn’t want financial status to be an obstacle to those who could benefit from experiencing the narrative. So it’s FREE and I will continue to reject ways to force monetization of it. That means the project budget is based entirely on donations and the generosity of those who were moved enough or are able to help financially support the project. The bigger the budget, the more I can pump back into the revamp or future projects.Game updates are released to Patreon supporters first. Keep in mind that updates may not occur every month, but production has been continuous since 2017. I work on the majority of this project solo and the amount of work required can be expansive. Lately, updates have been around every 2 months and may differ based on the content needs for each update. I’m very transparent with my audience. Anyone who subscribes at the $5 tier or above will get updates immediately on the day of launch. Following Patreon release, any bugs or spelling errors are identified and then three weeks after the Patreon exclusive, the new version is released for FREE to the public.
