Hello beautiful, and welcome to The Borderline Holistic.
My name is Abii and I'm the creator of www.theborderlineholistic.com. TBH is an online blog where I merge holistic health, spirituality and most importantly mental health. Since launching the blog in December 2015 I've been writing about my personal experiences living with both mental illness and chronic illness so that I can hopefully inspire others who are experiencing similar struggles to get the help and support they need to lead a healthy, happy and fulfilled lives despite any hardships that they may be currently experiencing.

My personal history with mental illness is a long and varied one. For the last ten years I've battled severe depression, debilitating anxiety attacks, disordered eating, alcohol abuse, self harm, suicide attempts and I was recently diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) in June 2015. BPD is a severe, little known and life altering condition that is particularly complex and difficult to treat and impacts every single area of my life by altering how I view myself, the world and others. It's characterized by extreme erratic changes of mood, polarized (black and white) thinking, extremely intense emotions and an extreme fear of abandonment. People who are diagnosed with BPD, myself included, often self harm and make suicide attempts and 10% of those diagnosed will succeed in their attempts which is one of the highest percentages of any mental illness.Along with battling mental illness I also live with Ulcerative Colitis, a chronic, incurable inflammatory bowel disease which is very similar to Crohn's Disease, and was diagnosed nearly seven years ago. Living with these two illnesses is tough; I'm on a lot of medication and I find these two conditions to be intrinsically linked; when my mental health deteriorates so does my physical health, and vice versa. There's not a single area of my life that hasn't been impacted. Managing mental illnesses and physical illness with very little support available on the NHS (and not coping well with either) has meant that I've been hospitalized several times, dropped out of college and gotten myself into a lot of debt because I'm often unable to work, among other things. Furthermore, the impact on my friends and in particularly, my family, has been profound.

This isn't a sob story though and I've achieved much since then, particularly since starting The Borderline Holistic. Raising awareness for mental illness and inspiring others to do the same is my passion and it's my dream to create realistic, life improving, affordable tools for people who are struggling with mental illness but who feel they're unable to get the help they need because the system isn't supporting them or isn't taking them seriously (I've been told that I couldn't be "that suicidal" because I was "still dressed well" and "didn't look that bad". And yes, that was by several doctors and a community mental health nurse. That same week I tried to kill myself). It's a sad fact, one that I've experienced so many times, that unfortunately due to lack of funding and sheer lack of resources, people who are severely unstable in their mental state are told to self refer to counselling, told to take some pills, to "seek medical attention if you overdose" and to "use clean blades if you're going to cut yourself at all" and then sent away.We need to put in place preventative measures for people with mental illness, not wait until they're past the point of being helped. We need more support for people who have been discharged from professional mental health services but who are left to their own devices yet still on medication, often feeling the same way they did when they were in the system or having therapy, who feel lost, misunderstood and with no clear vision for their future which means that (like myself) they often relapse into past behaviors, their depression, their self harm, their hopelessness and even commit suicide. It's these people, like myself, who I wish to support the most.

With money and support I plan to take The Borderline Holistic to the next level by creating a safe community where people can receive meaningful and authentic advice on living with mental illness. I plan to create affordable (and free!) ebooks and downloadable PDFs with tools that people can use to get their lives back on track. In October I start a life coaching course and desperately need to raise enough funds to complete the course - but once I'm certified I'll be helping people who have experienced depression, anxiety, BPD and more create goals for themselves in all areas of their lives and I'll be helping them to achieve them, feel good about themselves and most importantly break that cycle of self destruction by hopefully helping them be the happiest and healthiest they can possibly be. I'm also planning monthly meet ups (similar to AA meetings) where people can meet in a safe and stigma-free environment, share their stories and receive workshops about mindfulness, surf therapy, yoga, holistic health and wellness, meditation and more to help them manage their mental health. I want to travel the UK and more (currently based in Cornwall) sharing my story and raising awareness of mental health.

Unfortunately I can't do all of this alone. With a lot debt from being signed off work for a year and using all of my savings and sporadic working hours thanks to my illnesses my income is extremely low right now (I've taken home less than £100 a week for the last few weeks thanks to sick days) but with your help I KNOW that all of this can be achieved and more.

I may be just a twenty-something girl who's struggling with the same issues that so many others are, but I have big dreams and I'm determined to make all of the above happen because I 110% believe that by being authentic and sharing my story, I can make this a reality and help so many people in the process.

You can follow more of my story on Instagram @abiihilton and of course www.theborderlineholistic.com

Also, please consider supporting my mission on GoFundMe at https://www.gofundme.com/25trs4nf

Any donations will be so gratefully received and you'll be supporting not only myself but hundreds of people who are in dire need of help, support, understanding and realistic tools from someone who is understands what they're going through because she's living it herself.

Thank you so much. Please share if this resonated with you on any level.
