About Estelle Ellison

Welcome to my Patreon! You're likely here because you follow me on IG @abolish_time where I post written resources throughout each month for people to use in their interpersonal and political networks. I make a point not to replicate resources that already exist, and I actively pursue feedback and lessons from people doing work that I deeply respect.

The greatest joy of this project is that my writing gets to be in relationship with its readers.

I get to learn from the ways my writing does or does not resonate with my intended audience. In this way, I feel perpetually radicalized by all of you who have taken on similar and different fights against oppression. I feel humbled by the range of expertise I see intricately distributed between networks, communities, and organizations, and I feel privileged to be granted access to transformative feedback and lessons of empowerment from other abolitionists.

Your support goes to my on-the-ground abolitionist work as well as my writing praxis.

By becoming a patron of Abolish Time you become one of my co-conspirators, which helps protect me from burnout. I would like this patreon to reflect the kinds of political work you all are supporting, while also extending to ya’ll my own ability as a consultant on horizontal organizing, restorative and transformative justice, and writing.

here are some things I’ve committed my patreon resources to:
  • The creation and distribution of printed Abolish Time zines.
  • Some of Brown Recluse Zine Distro’s costs.
  • The Survivors, Writers, and Organizers who I choose to sponsor or / compensate each month.
  • A housing fund for my apartment where I am focusing on my healing and survival.
  • My design software subscriptions as well as the software costs of collaborators and comrades.
  • All photoessays and resources posted to the Abolish Time Instagram account.

And here’s some stuff I’m considering and looking into:

  • hiring an editor
  • hiring a graphic designer
  • starting a Printing Press

Will you support my fight to abolish time?

When we connect through our determination to end oppression, we collectively imagine how we can change the future. When our collective networks of care are truly sustainable, we have the capacity to work towards actualizing that change, checking in on each other along the way. When we find ourselves in a future where exploitation is impossible, we'll find that we've abolished time.

-Estelle Ellison | The Spectre Of Time (2019)

Here is some information about me:

I am a Black and nonbinary trans writer based out of the Bay Area. I have been in many leftist organizations over the last 13 years, and I have been burned out of every single one. It is only in the last 5 years that I have found my affinity with anarchists and abolitionists who are pro-survivor and anti-violence. As such, I am an Abolitionist Anarchist and an Afro-Futurist. I believe another world is possible, and I throw my lot in with everyone determined to make it so.

Much of my work throughout 2020 has centered around building supportive resources and networks for survivors. I consulted on a number of accountability processes in addition to helping organize some myself. During the summer uprising, Brown Recluse Zine Distro and I began our partnership, and at that point they've been pretty much all of the printing and shipping labor of Abolish Time zines.

"Brown Recluse Zine Distro was created to support and center zines written by people of color. This project was born out of passion for zines and frustration at the lack of representation and meaningful zine material for POC. So after many years of reading zines, writing zines and observing zine culture I decided to start a zine distro that centers our voices and presents our large contribution to zine and DIY culture. BRZD is dedicated to our struggles, our projects and our zines. Brown Recluse Zine Distro was born in the spirit of visibility and in the spirit of celebrating our cultures and intersectionality. BRZD exists to strengthen our ties and highlight our intersectional, relatable experiences."
