I Need Your Help

Help support my deep dive research on A Critical Hit!

Research-heavy articles and videos aren't quick to make. They take just as long to read or watch as any review or an opinion piece, but they take much longer to write because good research consumes a lot of time.

With your help, I can make deep-dives into comic book and video game history, with the goal of turning them into entertaining narratives. But you're not just funding the writing and the video editing. You're funding the research time that makes presenting these topics possible.

My hope is that there are enough people willing to support research-heavy essays for me to one day do this full time.

About Critical Kate: My name is Kate Willaert (pronounced "will art").

I've written freelance for Heidi MacDonald's The Beat and Frank Cifaldi's Video Game History Foundation. Previously I was a UI/UX designer. I majored in graphic design, and I occasionally draw comics

I've also written and illustrated a number of comic and video game infographics, which you may have seen on AV ClubKotakuMental, etc.

About A Critical Hit!: A Critical Hit! began in 2011 as an attempt at a typical video game site, with reviews and listicles. The site fell by the wayside when I got busy at my day job, and became a place to host occasional articles and essays. Now I'm reviving it with a focus on geek culture history and analysis.

About Patreon: Are you brand new to Patreon? It's a crowdfunding site for ongoing projects. You can support projects that interest you by donating a set amount per month, so that creators can eat, pay rent, and maybe one day work their way up to more elaborate creations.
