Hello! My name is Adam Miller. I've been fascinated by nature my entire life, and have been including others in my vision of the natural world by sharing my photography online since 2005. I am a recent photography graduate from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA, and full time professional freelance artist, specializing in landscape photography, though I also enjoy painting and sculpting. I currently work in both digital photography as well as analogue processes, such as film and non-silver print.

I have been mesmerized by nature all my life, thanks in part by growing up in a very rural area. Despite this, I struggled to find an artistic outlet in a way that related to my passions. It was only in 2005, when I borrowed my mother's digital camera and went on a walk along a riverbed, that I found my calling in photography. Unfortunately, my current situation has me living in an apartment in a neighborhood which is not optimal for my work, and I have to travel to photograph natural areas. Affording travel can be a struggle at times. This is where you can help!

Working freelance is sometimes a bit rough. If you are able to chip in, even a little, I'd love to travel to natural locations and share the beauty I find with you!

WHAT IS PATREON? HOW DOES THIS WORK?

Patreon is a platform that allows anyone to become a patron of the arts. This is a stuffy way of saying that here we have a streamlined way for you to support an artist directly. Think of it sort of as an ongoing, online tip jar; if you like an artist's work, and can't afford or don't want to necessarily buy the artwork regularly, but still want to support them in some way? This is a great way to do it. It's a nod of your head, saying, "hey, I like what you do, thanks for sharing." It's all totally optional, you can quit doing it at any time. When you pledge, you will be charged only once per month, at the end of the month, and you can cancel any time you want. Only want to tip once? That's totally okay! You can read more in the FAQ here if you have questions about how the money part works.

Are there any rewards? Are you just getting money for "free"?
Unlike something such as Kickstarter, where a community teams up to fund a single, large, amazing project, with Patreon you are essentially sponsoring an artist to keep making art over the long term. For the most part, you aren't buying anything here, the way you would be with kickstarter. That said...
I am happy to share stuff with my patrons. Everyone that supports me, even at only $1/month, gets to see bonus stuff I don't upload to my portfolio website. While I do, of course, share non-portfolio photographs and videos, I will let patrons see extras. Some months I might be able to visit a lot of locations and therefore have a lot of things to share with you, and some months there might be only a few, depending on my work load, the weather, and personal obligations.
Patrons that are able to sponsor me at higher amounts will get wonderful physical thank you gifts, as outlined at the bottom of this page. As money is an issue, I am not able to spend as much time and resources in making prints to send out for a lot of monthly rewards, so these are very limited.
Folks that show their support not with money, but instead by simply viewing my work, sometimes adding a comment, or taking even a moment to appreciate it are valued! I will keep sharing the same majority of my artwork online for free for as long as I can make it! I understand not everyone is able or willing to "send a tip" so to speak. That's okay! My main goal, other than feeding myself and paying bills, is to show others some of the beautiful natural places that exist. I just want you all to see some really awesome things!

What do you do with the money?
Any gain from Patreon will be applied toward creating new works. Specifically, it will give me the ability to both go to new locations, and afford expensive photographic equipment. Personal artworks, such as all of the ones seen in the banner at the top of this page, are not done on commission and can be a bit risky for a full-time artist, because there is no guarantee that I will ever see a return on it. While I hardly create art just for the money, the financial reality of the world means that I must make ends meet if I wish to make art as a full time career. When I am supported by folks like you, it gives me a little more time to make things that might or might not earn me any money, and that is a beautiful thing!
Patronage will allow me to more easily purchase new equipment, such as getting more lenses for my DSLR (I only have one right now), buying a medium format film camera, buying and processing film, and even eventually save up to replace my slowly dying old computer, so that editing digital work and film scans goes much more smoothly.

Think of this as helping me go to more locations to photograph. At $100 a month, I will be able to purchase a public transit bus pass. This pass is valid for unlimited rides and transfers, which will let me travel to the many parks in the Philadelphia area accessible via bus.
