Animals, in a lot of ways have always been seen as a metaphor or a vessel for some deep purpose or expression. In a lot of ways, it’s inescapable; they’re still connected to the natural order of things. I too combine my sculptures, animals, with symbolic, abstract ideas. To me, however the animal is not just an archetype for the species, I am more interested in the individual, and how they relate to my initial ideas. Whether they are actually inherent in the individual or my own projection of who they are, they help to define my final works.
