Some twenty years ago, I came across this sign over the drawing table of a reknown fantasy artist at a local fair, reading: „Don‘t feel bad- I couldn‘t afford me either!“
While this made me smile back then, ever since I have started to try and make a living out of my own art, I have come to realize that it is very true.
These days, I am mostly doing commission work, book covers,
illustrations and general design. And while it can be very rewarding
to bring someone else‘s ideas to life, this leaves only so much
time and space for me to draw just for the fun of it, to plunge
myself head over heels into new creative endeavours or to start a
project on the spur of the moment and see where it leads to.
I sincerely feel that art is less about technical „perfection“ in
one field, but all about trying different approaches and finding a
new perspective on things you have done a hundred times before. It is
much like going on a journey without a map- if you are willing to
just look around you, you are sure to find hidden gems off the beaten
As someone still struggling to make ends meet, I have to admit asking
anyone for money still does not come easy to me. I know too damn
well how it feels to look around and see so many great pepole and
projects worthy of support- a street artist just around the corner,
that kickstarter I wish I had come up with myself, or those crazy
inventions that might just save this planet… and then walk away
because money is tight and those bills keep coming so much faster
than new commissions. I guess being quite the introvert doesn‘t
Still, any support, no matter how small the amount, will be greatly
So if you want to support me and join me for the ride, prepare for
this to be a quite colourful journey through
art, crafts, game-making, photography, song lyrics and whatever else
may come our way.
Does this tickle your curiosity? Then I would love to have you with me!
