About Adventures of A+K

Hi y'all! We're Adam, Kathryn, & Kona, also known as Adventures of A+K! We're an adventurous married couple (+ pup) living on the road in our self-converted sprinter van! We help busy, budget conscious, and adventurous travelers maximize their vacation time and money wherever they go through detailed travel guides, YouTube videos, and travel resources. We share the must-visit local eats, popular and off the beaten path sights, and tons of tips to make planning your next adventure a whole lot easier. Our goal: to help you spend less time (and stress!) planning your trip and more time enjoying it!

Our Story
While our story begins 5 years before June 2016, this is when our life truly changed. We had been married for almost 2 years, were living in Austin, and were working super hard to save money to build or buy a house. As we inched closer to our goal, we realized that we didn't truly want a house and that what we truly wanted was to fill our life with more experiences and travel. So we had a crazy idea: let's move across the country to Seattle (where we got engaged)! Because of Adam's job as a teacher, we planned to wait a year to make a move, but then we had an unexpected plot twist: Kathryn lost her job. What felt like a massive failure ended up being the best thing that ever happened to us. We took this setback as an opportunity to achieve our dream a bit sooner and applied for jobs in Seattle. Adam landed a teaching job almost instantly and with summer coming to an end, we packed up all of our belongings and drove across the country to our new home.

Our 3 years living in Seattle were the best years of our lives. We spent every free moment hiking, road tripping, camping, exploring Washington, Oregon, and Canada, checking out coffee shops and restaurants, and so much more. Living in Seattle made us more spontaneous, relaxed, open-minded, adventurous, and further ignited our passion for travel. And while we were fortunate to have fun adventures almost weekly, we craved even more. So after lots of long discussions and looking at all of our options, we decided to do something pretty freaking crazy: convert a Sprinter van to live in and travel in full time!

We bought our Sprinter van at the end of January 2019, spent 7 challenging and stressful months converting it, and hit the road at the end of August 2019. Our goal is to visit every state and US National Park, all while highlighting cool and unique places along the way. We want to showcase how diverse and beautiful the United States is and encourage people to explore places in their own backyard. While the majority of our time is spent in North America, we also love experiencing new cultures and will trade the van for a plane every once in a while to explore destinations around the world.

We do all of this while working full time jobs (Kathryn has a corporate job, Adam has his web design business called Mana Web Design) and running our blog/YouTube channel full time. Traveling full time, especially while working, isn't always easy, but there is nothing we love more than experiencing new places and connecting with others along the way.

Why Patreon?
We have both worked jobs since we were teenagers and understand the value of working hard towards something you want, whether it's a physical item you want to buy or a goal you want to achieve. We love the feeling of knowing that we are able to do something ourselves without the help of others. Which is why setting up a Patreon account is a bit weird for us. We have put this off for a very long time, as we don't want to feel like we are asking people for money or that we aren't 100% financially supporting ourselves.

As we have built a larger travel community through our YouTube Channel, Instagram, and website, we have met so many wonderful people that have given us so much support by commenting on our posts, liking our videos, messaging us, and using our travel guides. Setting up a Patreon is another way that people can support us, if they'd like, to help us continue to create content that will hopefully help them plan their own adventures. It's also a way for us to connect with people on a deeper level and incorporate you more into our adventures.

Thank you!
Regardless if you're a Patron or not, we are forever grateful to those who follow along on our adventures. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of the support, love, and kindness you show us!
