I'll begin a video series exploring the background of Spidersilk. I will put topics patrons are interested in on the high-priority list for these videos.

Hey there!

I'm Alakotila and I am an indie comic artist.

I love telling stories, sharing characters' minds and their worlds. How the characters relate, where they came from. Tangled webs of character relationships are my thing. Also, I want people to think about how we see each other and to explore the beauty of diversity (of all kinds). My current work is a comedy/fantasy/romance that subtly addresses culture shock and concepts of toxic masculinity. The main theme is finding home, or finding a place where you belong. All of that wedged solidly between battles over cake and actual battles.

Like many a comic artist, I do have a day job. Fortunately it is fairly creative and is in a design field, so I am able to keep from being worn out by it. However, that is time I could be spending completely on storytelling, on Spidersilk!

As a patron, you get access to early concepts on whatever I am working on. You will be the first to know details about my undertakings, whether it is Spidersilk, other comic projects, novels, or even games. You also have the ability to discuss and guide these early projects. Some sketches are for patrons only, and most of them tend to be pretty darn cute! If you like cute drawings, you know what to do.

Also? Depending on your monthly pledge amount, you may be privy to some of my earlier ideas regarding Spidersilk and its stories, characters, and world! These ideas are sometimes hilariously bad, sometimes just sad.

My patreon is primarily to support comics. I would love to get Spidersilk out a lot quicker than I can now. I think it would be amazing were I able to get 12-15 pages out monthly without a problem! That is my current goal and though I sometimes reach it, it isn't steady or guaranteed … yet. It will be set once a certain milestone is met. And with Spidersilk supported, it opens up a bit of free time for other pursuits involved with story-telling such as writing, other comics, and games.

About Spidersilk

After being captured, tortured, and left to die while in the service of his homeland, Prentice leaves, making his way through foreign lands. His only companions are his brother, who was exiled for murdering Prentice's captors, and his giant chicken-like summon, the Ambassador. They cannot go home, and they search for a place to belong. They eventually settle in Kalviva and Prentice stumbles his way into a cell of thieves, finding himself drawn deeper into the intricate underworld system. The thieves are stable and secure, sure of their domain and of each other.

But perhaps they are too comfortable.
They will be hard pressed to handle what happens next.

I would very much appreciate if you become a patron, though you can help support Spidersilk by reading and subscribing to it on its new home, tapastic.com. You can help any artist by helping spread the word about their art -- share their posts, blogs, comic sites, etc.

What does being a patron mean, and why is this so important?

Well, like I said, the more support I get for comics, the more time I have to spend on them! I want this awesome story to get out there, and it will. But with your help it will simply happen sooner. It will get better, stronger … faster!

You'll be supporting Spidersilk, which allows me to reduce stress levels and put more work not only towards this comic, but to my other projects (short stories, novels, games, etc) which you will know about first.

I won't be changing visibility of the comic online -- you can still access it via host sites (tapastic, for example). However, there are special perks for becoming a patron, which I have recently edited given that Spidersilk's former home, inkblazers.com, has shut down. Your reading Spidersilk means a lot to me, and I do illustrations as well as some blogs, but I do make sure to make special content for patrons only. As a patron you can provide feedback on what sort of rewards or perks you'd like to see, and I take those into consideration.

Don't ever be ashamed to pledge a dollar per month -- I think you're awesome! (That's less than the price of a fancy coffee a week!) Now, about those snarky guys below, I don't know, but ignore them. I could draw embarrassing pictures of them for you and they'll shut up. In fact, that just might be a perk of becoming a patron … you have but to ask!

How to use Patreon

First, choose an amount to pledge - for instance, a dollar. You can pick a custom amount as well. You can edit it at any time, so for some months if you have more or less money you can adjust your pledge. You don't have to accept the reward, but I love comments and participation on the patreon stream for the sketches and stuff I put up, so please join in!

For Spidersilk, you pledge by the month, not by the art work. The amount you pledge will not vary or spike if I happen to create more or less art; it will stay the same until you alter it.

Thank you!
