Hello. Thank you for your support.  My name is Alana Yon, and I am a feminist, vital materialist, pseudoscientist, and artist. I work with growing things and materials that are constantly changing on all time scales. My approach to my work and my life comes from my desire to ethically engage with the world.
In her book Vibrant Matter, Jane Bennett says that “vital materialists are selves who live as earth, who are more alert to the capacities and limitations…of the various materials that they are.” This way of being in the world horizontalizes all things as materiality. The body is material and so is everything around us. Material has agency and power.
I am very excited to use Patreon as a platform to share with you the experiments I have been doing in my studio. I work with fermentation such as kombucha and red wine vinegar, fungi such as mold and mushrooms, and organic materials such as straw, wool, feathers, cotton, clay, and beeswax. My artist website can be found at alanayon.com
Patreon allows me to use a portion of my time to invest in my work and introduces me to a whole community of creative individuals who are trying to follow their passion for making and manifesting, sharing and connecting.
One aspect of my work is cultivation. Many of my pieces/experiments take time and constant nurturing. And most of the time, the exciting things I encounter in my studio are only experienced by me. Patreon has given me a way to change this. With financial support, I am able to cultivate my experiments and allow the pieces to have a voice of their own.
As a patron, you will have access to posts about my experiments in the studio as well as images of the work. You will be able to see its changes and experience the work. My posts include observations, descriptions, conclusions, and questions.
I also have informational videos, time lapse videos, and much more to share with you. These time lapse videos show fungi growing across a surface, the emergence of a mushroom body on straw, the fermentation of kombucha, and other processes of growth and decay. There are DIY videos about making paper, hand spinning fibers, fermenting kombucha, growing your own mushrooms at home, and more.
You also get 10% off of any of the work should you wish to purchase something. Visit my website at alanayon.com/artwork-for-purchase.  Thank you for going on this journey with me. I look forward to engaging with each of you.  Thank you so much for your support.
