About Alex Bayley
Support independent, grassroots community-building, activism and research!
Hi, I'm Alex. You may know me from such other projects as Geek Feminism, Ballarat Buzz, Growstuff, or the WisCon Vid Party, just to name a few. I'm a self-employed creator who cares about resilience, resistance, survival and celebration for people on the margins.
In Permaculture, one of the basic principles is that interesting stuff happens on the margins. The more edges there are in a system, the better it is. But margins are hard to live on. The resources available to the centre aren't there, and you need to work out the tensions between two (or more) worlds.
Being self-employed brings flexibility but also economic precarity. Living in a regional city is cheap but resources can be limited. Being an independent creator/activist/researcher gives me freedom to work on what I want, but no institutional support.
By becoming a patron, you'll support projects like:
- queer history research
- resource guides
- events and workshops
- creative nonfiction, essays and interviews
You can see some of my recent work on my website's projects page and read more on my blog.
Patron tiersEvery single one of you is valued and appreciated. Thank you so much for helping me do this important work!
This is a "pay what you can" situation - all patrons receive the same benefits, namely:
- regular updates on my work in progress
- opportunities to suggest and vote on directions for my future work
Your patronage goes toward:
- web hosting and related expenses
- subscriptions and memberships
- books and other resources
- travel, conferences, etc.

$229 of $500 per month

At $500 a month, I'll be able to set aside more time every month to work on my projects. More research, more blog posts, more publications, more events!
