This tier allows access to both Monday posts (minicomic & short stories; chapters of Facsimile as I slowly write them) AND Wednesday & Saturday posts (the two page a week serialisation of the YA graphic novel Reversal)
Maybe you have an actual real job and can afford to chuck us $10 a month to make these books rather than the basic $5 tier. Bless you.
As with all tiers $5 and above, this tier allows access to all posts, so Monday's minicomics, short stories, and chapters of Facsimile AND Wednesday & Saturday's serialisation of the YA graphic novel Reversal.
I'm also a single mom, who lives in NYC, and takes care of her own mother, who's no longer able to manage her own affairs. It's a lot. I cope, but there's never enough money or time.
This Patreon updates three times a week. Wednesdays and Fridays, with pages from Reversal, and Mondays contain a bonus post of more Facsimile, a minicomic, an AMA, my old comics writing masterclass lectures, etc. The Reversal pages (eg the Wednesday and Friday updates) are available to backers $5 and up, and the bonus post is sometimes public, sometimes backers-only and sometimes only for high-level backers.
Here's some more info about the main projects this Patreon supports: my next prose novel Facsimile and the YA urban fantasy graphic novel Reversal (with Skylar Patridge and Kelly Fitzpatrick). I'll be serialising chapters of Facsimile as I write them, and pages of Reversal on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
I'm self-funding Reversal so I'm making it available to backers at the $5 and over tier. I'm hoping that enough of you enjoy it to help defray the cost of producing it! It's 273 pages long, and we're about 80 pages into drawing / creating it.
Facsimile is a story I've been working on so long that at this point it feels more like an exorcism than a writing project. I've filled moleskines with notes for it. I feel like I know these characters better than I know myself. But the pressure of financial survival means that I'm forced to dart from project to project, nailing those invoices, and the spec work often takes a back seat. Your help, encouragement, and financial contributions enable me to spend more time on this, my passion project.
What is Facsimile about? The concise version: a girl, a robot, and an actor, and their struggles with identity and survival. The handwavey version: it's about fandom, the uniting and destroying power of social media, fame, identity, depression, and the weird things that a life in the creative arts does to your head. Parts of it are explicit. Parts of it will probably creep you out. This is deliberate. But it's also an incredibly sentimental book, and it'll end up being a thriller, because apparently everything I write turns into a thriller without even my conscious say-so. The book is going to be a behemoth, a big, sprawling epic that if it comes in under 140,000 I will be very surprised.
