My Mission

My mission with OpenFaaS is to Make Serverless Functions Simple and with your help I want to continue to build out the features and community that are making that possible today. OpenFaaS is platform agnostic and is the only serverless solution that can integrate natively with both Kubernetes and Docker Swarm. OpenFaaS won the "Best Cloud Computing Software" both in 2017 and in 2018 award from InfoWorld.com. I value simplicity and am proud of leading the way by pioneering a vendor-agnostic project that puts developers first and "just works".

OpenFaaS is built by developers for developers with over 160 contributors, 15k GitHub stars, around 1000 members on Slack and  end-users in production.

Why back my work with Patreon?

It's important to me personally that the OpenFaaS project I created in 2016 remains in the community and not owned by any vendor. Your pledge will help me work on supporting end-users and help with my travel for events and the running costs of the project's domain names, websites, GitHub, Zoom and more.

I dedicate my personal time to providing technical support to users, writing examples and blog posts and mentoring community members including spending time 1:1 with the core contributors and GitHub members. I foot the costs for running OpenFaaS and would like to ask for your support through a monthly pledge on Patreon. This will allow me to keep up that high level of responsiveness and most importantly keep OpenFaaS independent from any one vendor.

What about sponsorship?

As a corporate end-user of OpenFaaS you can make a monthly pledge to sponsor my through this Patreon page with varying tiers and rewards available. This is one way you can give back to the Open Source ecosystem and make the project's future more sustainable.

See details for how to get your logo listed on  www.openfaas.com as a sponsor.

What is Serverless?

Serverless should not be a mystery - it is an architectural pattern that means you can go to market from idea to product faster than ever before. At the same time you can worry less about the complex details of managing Kubernetes, containers and Dockerfiles, but leverage all the benefits of distributed computing either on-premise or in the cloud. OpenFaaS provides best-practice solutions (batteries-included) to all the common container problems including health checks, non-root users and built-in metrics through Prometheus. Prometheus is a CNCF project and drives auto-scaling for demand, even to zero and back again. You can use the CLI to build and deploy your functions - it's as easy as typing in "faas-cli up".

The OpenFaaS community has grown from zero in December 2016 to around 1000 members in the Slack group,  active users going to production and around 160 contributors. The #contributors channel in the Slack group is the most active of all and is full of ideas, collaboration and great examples of community spurring one-another along. Your pledge will enable Alex to keep OpenFaaS independent - growing and delivering on the mission of Serverless Functions Made Simple.
