Penciled Pages Posted For Patreon Backers (POW!)

Many readers have told me they've liked seeing the penciled pages for The Young Protectors. If we hit this goal, along with the fully colored page update, I'll also post up Adam DeKraker's awesome pencils for Patreon backers to enjoy!

(Oh, and just so it's clear, these Milestone Goals are the combined monthly pledges of ALL Patrons added up together for this project -- that's why even smaller pledges can make BIG things happen.)

Patreon backers get digital Kickstarter rewards!

$2,500 per month

There were a lot of folks who found The Young Protectors after I had run the Kickstarter to fund the printing of Volume One and who have let me know that they were bummed not to be able to pledge to it and get access to the rewards. A bunch of digital rewards (wallpapers, pin-ups, PDFs) have already been made and more will continue to be made in 2015. If we hit this goal, I will send out links to the Safe-For-Work, non-exclusive Kickstarter digital rewards (which are most of them) after I've created them. The Kickstarter backers will get them first, but a bit later on, you'll get them too as a Special Digital Reward.

Two pages of comics per week�officially!

All the art and web-hosting for the comic is now paid for! Hitting this goal means that all my art and Web site expenses for the comic are now covered, so if we hit this target, The Young Protectors will officially become a twice-weekly comic!

Patreon-exclusive Anime-style Wallpaper!

$3,500 per month

If we hit this goal, I'LL COMMISSION A PATREON-ONLY WALLPAPER from an artist I recently met at Nijicon. It'll be a colorful pin-up of our heroes, DRAWN WITH AN ANIME FLAVOR. It's always fun to see other artists' takes on our characters, and I think an anime-type style could be especially cool. And you'll have access to a wallpaper that's an extra special thank you, just for you.

How Spooky got his cap!

If we hit this goal, all Patrons will get sent a short prose (non-comic) story about how fan-favorite character Spooky Jones got his special cap and why he wears it everywhere. Wondering about that cap's origin story? It's not what you think. And if we hit this goal, you'll get to find out! :)

At this point, you're already getting the SFW digital Kickstarter rewards as Special Digital Rewards. But The Young Protectors Volume One Kickstarter had me go where I've never gone with my characters before. If we hit this stretch goal, I'll also start sending out the special "Full Monty" digital Kickstarter rewards of the adult characters of The Young Protectors. The Kickstarter backers will get them first, but a bit later on, you'll get them too as a Special Digital Reward.

If we hit this goal, I will make a change to the site that has been the biggest feature request I've received since I started with webcomics: I'LL CREATE A BOOKMARKABLE LINK THAT WILL TAKE YOU TO THE MOST CURRENT PAGE OF THE YOUNG PROTECTORS. It's going to take some work to make that possible, but I've done some research, and I'm now convinced I can do it with my current webcomic software. If we hit this goal, I will make it happen.

Rum-Locker has got a great idea for what the background could be, he has time to do it while he's working on a little something else for me, and I think it'll be just enough to spark your imagination and add to the fun. It'll be posted as another Special Digital Reward wallpaper and I think you'll really like it. :)

Alex Can Quit His Day Job!

Hi, I'm Alex Woolfson. As a gay kid growing up, I loved science-fiction and action stories, but I never got to see what I really wanted to see—and that's kick-ass genre stories with heroes, real heroes, who just happened to like other guys. That's what I tried to tell with my science-fiction comic, Artifice, and it's the kind of story I'm trying to tell with my ongoing superhero webcomic, The Young Protectors.

I've always made my comics available to read online for free and that's not going to change. But over the past few years, the work has moved from being a part-time hobby to a full-time job—with very part-time income. I pay my artists a real page rate and, as my comics have grown in size and readership, I'm having to turn down more and more work from the day job to keep things going which, over the last year, has meant burning through my savings. I'm looking for ways to make creating these comics truly sustainable on the long-term, so I've decided to try Patreon—and that's where you come in!
