About

I started my YouTube channel when all concerts, teaching courses, and consort coaching was cancelled because of the Coronavirus outbreak. Lots of the viols players who would usually take part in all of these things are currently stuck at home, and are missing the music making, listening and learning they usually enjoy, and the friends they usually share it with. The professional musical community is also in crisis as we see our work, creative outlets, and therefore our income, disappear for at least the next several months. So it's not a very cheerful time for any of us (!) but musicians everywhere are coming up with wonderful and creative ways of combating it. This is my contribution.

I've been so encouraged by all the messages of thanks and support I've received since I started, and also by the number of people asking if there is a way that they can make a financial contribution towards the creation of material they are enjoying and learning from. So I've found one, and this is it! It's not the reason I started the channel, but as it seems to be doing its job then I plan to continue it, and your support will help me do that.

I plan to continue producing content, perhaps not at quite the rate I've started with forever, but at least one video a week, on all aspects of viol playing. By becoming a patron through Patreon you will have access to a private area of the channel called The Clinic, where I will post videos addressing specific issues that patrons have requested. So for example, you could ask about a particular technique, a few bars from a specific piece where you can't find a sensible fingering, a recording of a continuo part that you could play along to, or helpful ways into a style of music that friends of yours really like but you can't make head or tail of!

Thank you for your support - let's keep calm and play the viol!
