About Alixx Black

If I had to summarize myself into a bullet point list, this is probably how I would do it:
  • passionate about rearranging the 26 American English letters into a series of words that make pretty great stories, I like to think
  • a curious obsession for alliteration
  • characters make bad stories good tbh
  • hard work + enthusiasm = me
  • french fries

They say that agents and publishers don't really care about the "I've loved writing for my whole life" and "I have been writing for as long as I can remember" remarks because it has all been said before, and it is usually not a realistic representation of what a person is when they are describing themselves as a writer. So, I want to be frank and honest about my journey as a storyteller.

Let's begin with the first time I remember seriously crafting a story. I had to have been about nine years old, right after I read the Harry Potter books in the right order. I acted out and took illegible notes about the changes to the story I would have made. My next major writing project would come when I was 11/12 years old when I wrote poems for a nationwide writing contest and won for my junior high. Even though I didn't win at a national level, somewhere out in the world is a book where my poems about depression exist in print.

Secondly, I didn't think I was a good writer until I was fourteen and my ninth grade English teacher wrote on my paper that my story moved her to tears, not just because of the content, but because of the natural storytelling ability that she saw in my work. That's when I decided, shoot, I might actually be good enough to share my stuff with, like, other people????

So, thirdly, I started posting fanfiction online. It was wild that I was getting positive feedback and that people actually liked my stuff, but I felt great about it. After starting my fanficiton writing venture in 2011, I don't think I've stopped writing for any significant period of time. Sure, it was mostly fanfiction, but starting in 2014 - I dared to post original work online that I hoped someday would be able to become a full-time job to support my family.

And here we are - 2018, now, and I'm preparing for the first major blog project that I hope will bring a legitimate income. I've been paid for my writing services before, but never in this way and never with my name. All I want to do is write good stories about complex people that reflect this muddy, messy, crazy world that we live in - and for YOU to see yourself in the work I'm sharing with the world.

As far as I'm concerned, if I'm not doing that, then I'm not doing my job.

Yours always,

xoxo
