Who am I?

My name is Daniel Ivery, and I am an online writer. I've been writing online about my football club Birmingham City and it's ownership travails since 2011. I have two websites - Often Partisan (which I retired in 2016) and almajir.net, and a book co-written with top Hong Kong solicitor Will Giles about the club. I survived five legal threats and was eventually a key part in hated club "acting chairman" Peter Pannu being forced out.

Why Patreon?

Writing online is a job for me - but alas my job doesn't allow me to do what I really want to do. My club might have got rid of Yeung and Pannu but that doesn't mean the time for vigilance is over - the new titular owner has never been photographed online and there are rumours of shadowy businessmen taking control too.

It's not just my own club either. All four of the football clubs in the West Midlands are now owned by Chinese businesses. It's very difficult to get information about these owners and what they are trying to do and as one of the few people in the UK media to get to grips with the Carson affair I think I have a lot to offer.

With support from patrons, I can devote more time to investigating things. With extra resources it's possible to obtain documents and information that might not be ordinarily available - even if it means going to source. I'm not looking for fame or fortune - more the chance to prove to myself that people value my work and to prove to everyone else that with a bit of backing, much is possible.

Not only that, but with support from patrons it's easier for me to share my findings. The internet has come a long way since I launched Often Partisan with things like video hangouts increasingly popular. The more support I have, the more time I can spend responding to people and answering questions.

I've been making plans to write a second book, and as part of those plans I want to use Patreon to share the process. Rather than just ask people to put up money to receive a book in the future, I like the idea of people contributing a small amount and become a part of the whole project.

$2 or more per month
Even the smallest amount helps.

Two bucks buys a document from the HK Company Registry, or from the UK land registry. It's another bit towards creating the resources available to be able to search for info, or to speak to contacts.

It also buys me more time to respond to emails and Facebook Messages. It allows me more time to spend on Youtube talking to fans and answering questions. I'm doing my best to do this now - your help can make it better.
Double Thank You!
$5 or more per month
Five bucks goes a long way in the digital world, and with this you will help create the chance for me to properly devote time and resources to finding things out. Five bucks helps pay for time speaking to contacts in the UK, HK and China.

It also buys me more time to respond to emails and Facebook Messages. It allows me more time to spend on Youtube talking to fans and answering questions. I'm doing my best to do this now - your help can make it better.

An Hour of work
$15 or more per month
$15 means an hour less billpaying work I have to do.

In an hour, I can research a blog post. I can put together a newsletter or a video. I can schedule hangouts on Youtube to questions from people about what I've written.

Backers of this tier will be sent exclusive newsletters and invited to backer-only hangouts on Youtube.
Two Hours of work
$30 or more per month
$30 a month is a big commitment and it's not one I expect many people to back. It pays for 2 hours worth of work and essentially ensures I have at least one free evening a week to devote solely to my football research.

Backers of this tier will be sent exclusive newsletters and invited to backer-only hangouts on Youtube - and if you don't have my mobile number already you'll get it so you can speak to me directly to answer questions.
Business tier 2
$100 or more per month
I don't expect anybody to fund this sort of level, but if you have a business and you'd like to support my work then this is the tier for you.

$100 a month gets your business logo on the site, in a discreet corner on youtube hangouts and in newsletters. It also gets you my help with any digital marketing, content or SEO you need help with.
Business Tier 1
$250 or more per month
I don't expect this of anyone - but if someone wants to put this amount of money up you'll probably help ensure I can make almajir.net a full time job. At this point I'll be able to make a proper plan to cover things in a media-style, complete with a website that is capable of handling multiple items of news and media per day.

4% complete
This is the fantasy. At this level I can pretty much afford to work full time on almajir.net, and properly cover the club. I know it's not going to happen, but a man can dream...
