About I Always Wanted To Podcast

I’m Liz Sumner. I coach women who struggle with motivation and long to feel a sustained sense of accomplishment. Sometimes that means gathering the courage to do things they’ve always wanted to do but something held them back-- fear, shyness, they weren’t ready, it wasn’t the right time, lots of excuses and missed opportunities.

I always wanted to-- I started thinking about that phrase, and all the various desires I’ve heard people describe, and I thought, “I know people who do those things, and make it look-- if not easy, then at least doable. How did they get started? I should find out.”

That’s how this podcast came about. It’s conversations with people who are doing things that others long to do. My intention is to be a resource for people who might be hesitating to try something bold and they need some encouragement.

And I mean boldness in the sense of a big step for you. Even if others think it’s no big deal, if YOU find it challenging but do it anyhow-- that’s bold. I want to support you in taking that step.

And encouragement can come in different forms.

Once when I was in my 30s and living in Seattle I went to an outdoor concert at the zoo with a friend. A semi-famous singer-songwriter was performing and my friend was infatuated with him. I won’t mention names but I was extremely underwhelmed. I left saying, “if HE can write songs then I certainly can. My song-writing career never really took off, partly because I married a better composer, but I got a couple of good songs recorded before I stopped writing.

I mention that story because maybe this podcast will be that inspiration for you. The people I’m interviewing aren’t world famous or super wealthy. Any special skills and talents they’ve learned, and many of them didn’t start until their late 40s.

They’re simply doing what others want to do and finding success on their own terms. They have some good stories.

I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I’ve enjoyed recording them.
