HELP ME SEND THE FLORA AND FAUNA TO NEW YORK!

I'm a woman, an artist, a person who's not afraid to talk about the hard stuff. I'm a lover, a fighter and someone who takes great pride in being part of a likeminded community of creators.

And right now, I need your help.

After news of the Stanford Rape Case broke last June, I read Emily Doe's brave letter. Like many, I was shocked and angered, but inspired by her words. I was moved to write a play called The Flora and Fauna, inspired by a single line from her letter.

The play went on to have a few developmental readings, and several theatre companies expressed interest in staging it as a full production. Then it began to win awards, three of them so far, while in contention for even more.

The play details the friendship of two women, over a 28-year period, through all their dramas and quiet moments, ups and downs, as they live messy and complicated lives in process.

I have several amazing opportunities coming up for it, including a New York production, but need some cash to get us there. Anything you can offer will help us get a new dialogue started, where people are free to share their own experiences of trauma in the talkbacks, and even work toward healing as the play moves on to San Francisco, Chicago and Boston.

We've got two investors so far for an Off-Broadway production, and I've been busting my butt to get us over the hump for spring of 2019. Can you help us take this timely play to New York with your donation? I have a donor in place who will patch, dollar for dollar, everything you give.

Here's my bio:

Alyson Mead studied at Yale, the Slade School of Art in London, NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and with iO West, UCB and Tectonic Theatre Project. Her plays include THE FLORA AND FAUNA (Princess Grace Award finalist, Henley-Rose Award winner, Bridge Initiative New Work winner, WAM Theatre, Magnolia Theatre, Cherry Lane Theatre, Project Playwright semi-finalist), THE PULSE PROJECT (Steppenwolf, Emerald Theatre, Stage Q), THE QUALITY OF MERCY (Urban Stages Emerging Playwright Award finalist, Bay Area Playwrights Festival semi-finalist, Elephant Theatre, Skylight Theatre), THE HONOR SYSTEM (Cimientos/IATI Theater finalist, Manhattan Theatre Works’ Newborn Festival semi-finalist, Pasadena Playhouse), THE FLOWER (Kenneth Branagh Award for New Dramatic Writing finalist, NEWvember New Plays Festival finalist, Rough Writers New Play Fest), and PUNK ROCK MOM (Venus Theatre), among others. Alyson was awarded residencies and fellowships through Ragdale, the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Ireland, Can Serrat and the Women’s International Study Center, and her work has been developed and commissioned by Kenyon Playwrights Conference, Playwrights Center San Francisco, 360repco, Ensemble Studio Theatre, and the 365 Women a Year Playwriting Project. She’s published by Original Works Publishing, and is a member of the Dramatists Guild, Ammunition Theatre’s Writing Workshop, the Ensemble Studio Theatre’s Playwriting Unit and the Los Angeles Female Playwrights Initiative.

Thanks so much for considering my project, and helping to make it a reality!
