There are certain stories that need to be told. Maybe on the surface you feel that you know all there is to know--Alzheimer's disease as a near epidemic while pharmaceutical companies fiercely search for a cure. You wear purple, write checks to Alzheimer's societies, and live in fear all the while hoping for the mono-therapeutic cure potentially dormant in a large industry pipeline--if only we would donate more or allocate more funds.

What if there is another story?

To quote Vannevar Bush's prescient quote from 1945

"There is a new profession of Trail Blazers, those who find delight in the task of establishing useful trails through the enormous mass of the common record."

What if advances in Alzheimer's research are more a product of the sunk cost fallacy? More an inability to fail successfully vs. proximity to a cure?

Alzheimer's the Brand tells the parallel story of how the drug industry has evolved from "take two leeches and call me in the morning" to an economic juggernaut not willing to abandon the false hope of a cure for a disease without a diagnosis, biomarker, or cure.
