  ABOUT A.M.SARTOR

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest United States and live there still. Although I grumble about the grey weather in the winter, I find that the gloom has become a part of my creative process. If I lived somewhere warm and sunny I would probably just paint happy subjects. Things being what they are, my favorite topics include the supernatural, myths and lore, the darker side of fairy tales, armchair neuroscience, and nature. I am a devout procrastinator because I come up with my best ideas when I am supposed to be working on something else. My brain and how it functions is a continual fascination/frustration.
When I am not creating art I enjoy hiking, thinking about creating art, looking at other peoples art, reading, playing video games, playing pen and paper roll playing games, making lists, and being manipulated by my cat.

  ABOUT MY WORK

I am an illustrator who has been producing stuff for about 20 years. Although the intent of that stuff has changed over time, I maintain an aesthetic that links it all together. I have worked on 3D video games, 2D video games, board games, collectible card games, children's books, and book covers. I have recently been interested in pursuing more personal work, and have shown with Light Grey Art Lab, Krab Jab Studios and Ghost Gallery. In 2015 I had my first solo show which I called "Desultoria", due in part to the fact that I have difficulty sticking to one topic. I find it much more satisfying to let each painting form its own definition, rather than trying to force an idea to a single conclusion. For me, a painting is a thought process. I am able to discover concepts and connections that I would never understand through any other language.

SCHEDULE AND LOGISTICS

I post once a week usually on Thursday, but sometimes on Wednesday or Friday, and very rarely on Saturday.

If you sign up and give me your address I might send you stuff. If you don’t want stuff leave me a note saying you don’t want stuff. I totally understand the need to limit stuff.

June and July are free! I suspend payments for two months, and all posts made during that period are public. I am doing this now because I am in school in June and July, but I will probably carry this tradition on in perpetuity.
