About Amy Hailwood
If you've pitched up here, you must find the idea of transforming society and culture with outstanding theatre at least a little bit EXCITING! I am really passionate about this and have launched this page so that other people who think this idea is really cool, can get involved by supporting my vision. Wanna know more?
So, since I moved back to Manchester in 2016 I have been working towards launching a new, Manchester-based theatre company that makes theatre-for-social-change. I have covered a lot of ground but now it's make or break time! I need a regular, sustainable income in order to free up enough time to push through to launching the company, and making our debut production - Joy Unspeakable, a show that tackles eating disorders (and much more).
This is what I have done so far:
*A works-in-progress version of Joy Unspeakable at the Octagon Theatre Bolton's REVEAL Festival in 2016
*Research and development workshops in 2017 on eating disorders, body image and self esteem with seven groups of young people and adults with mental health issues, that reached 64 participants
*A one year social entrepreneurship training programme with The Lions
*A successful pitch in The Lions Lair for £7000 investment in essential equipment
*A detailed 1-3 year business plan for the launch and development of the company
*Secured £10,000 seed funding to cover the costs of the above in 2016/17
*Built links with many of the main Manchester theatres e.g. The Lowry, The Royal Exchange and the Octagon Theatre Bolton - you can see a variety of projects I have worked on here
*Put forward by the Royal Exchange to meet with the National Theatre about my work
*Accepted onto the first ever Class of 2019 programme at The Lowry to provide producing training and mentoring
This is what I want to do next, with your support:
*Expand the the pool of Associate Artists that are part of the company
*Officially register the company as a Company Limited by Guarantee thereby opening up access to much greater sources of long term funding
*Launch the company online with a website and social media presence
*Apply for full funding to social as well as arts funders to make Joy Unspeakable
*Secure charity status for the company which will open up access to an even greater level of potential, long term funding
*Complete a full script for the new and improved version of Joy Unspeakable
*Hold a creative Research and Development process with actors and creatives, to workshop the new script and develop the language of final show
*Further develop our exciting concept for the wraparound social change elements of the show that will tackle the destructive impacts of eating disorders in a positive, creative way
*Present Joy Unspeakable in Greater Manchester in 2020
*Tour Joy Unspeakable to Northern venues from 2020 onwards
To do all of the above takes quite a bit of time and at the moment I work several different jobs in order to earn enough money to get by. With the support of partners like you, I can commit my full time and attention to launching and developing the company.
It's gonna be amazing!
