What is Victorian Analysis?Victorian Analysis is a new voice on local government here in Greater Victoria. We focus on Victoria City Hall, the Capital Regional District and the District of Saanich and we want to be known for doing fair and accurate work. Unlike conventional media coverage that focuses exclusively on big ticket items and controversies, Victorian Analysis looks behind the scenes and at the players to figure things out.
And in doing this, we seek inspiration instead of anger and disappointment because we actually enjoy paying attention to and reporting on local government. We promote opportunities for further learning and engagement instead of reasons for cynicism and disgust because without your involvement, the current deficiencies of local government will just continue.
A big thing we do is live-tweet Council, committee and board meetings using our Twitter account (@AnalyseVic) to provide real time access to local government proceedings. As part of this tweeting we provide direct links to agenda items as well as a continuous stream of factual 140 character tweets relating to presentations, questions, comments and decisions as they are made. Follow us on Twitter and we'll keep you in the know!
Another thing we do is provide regular content on our website, VictorianAnalysis.ca. Prior to any local government meeting we spend multiple hours reviewing all agenda attachments so that we can write what we call Early Thoughts articles. These articles let you know what's coming up and they also prepare us for the work of live-tweeting which is harder than you think! Once meetings are over, we head home to review our own tweets and produce what we call our Summary and Observations where we reflect on decisions made and offer analysis of issues raised.
As a much needed complement to our meeting reporting services, we have also developed a new Opinions section on our website for publishing regular Editorial pieces and conducting regular Interviews with community leaders. In addition to conducting our own Investigations into issues of interest, we will also be available for you to commission your own research. If you have any specific ideas or requests, please let us know!
If you would prefer to make a one time contribution please contact us to make arrangements.
