About

Hello!  Welcome to my Patreon page where fans like you help me keep doing what I love most in the world: making music! Specifically, songs. Lots and lots of songs - typically accompanied by strange and fantastical lyric art pieces that I call "Southpaw Ink."  Intrigued? Here's how it works

THE SHORT STORY

Join my community of Patrons by simply choosing one of the monthly contribution levels above. You are now part of the Patreon community whose combined forces directly fund my music and allow me to create.  In return, I promise you, my Patrons, a new creation every month.  Posted right here on Patreon, this creation will be a new recorded song, or a finished piece of lyric art, a new music video, sometimes all of that in one month.  As a Patron, you get immediate and exclusive access to these new creations. They haven't yet been released to the public (some of them may never be) and you won’t find them posted on my website or social media platforms.

Essentially, by becoming a Patron you’re saying “I dig what you do, Andrea, and I want to help you keep doing it!” It’s a low-stress (but high impact!) way to support me, the artist, and get direct access to the music you helped me create.

As a welcome gift, I'm giving all new Patrons a fresh new digital download of "I Wonder If She Knows", a song very dear to me that I wrote with friends Jimm McIver and James Hall this exact time of year a few years back.  Many of you have heard me play this song live plenty of times but I've never recorded it until now.

If this sounds like something you'd like to be a part of, join me by selecting one of the contribution levels above. Each one comes with its own unique set of perks. They ALL grant you instant access to the new music and art.

THE LONGER STORY (Go on, Andrea, please tell us more)

I am happiest when I’m plunged into a creative deep dive and don't know when I'm coming out. Most people who know me have probably gotten tired of hearing "Don't bother me. I'm down a rabbit hole!"  Whether I'm transfixed by bits and pieces of sound that turn into melodies or I'm lost in the nitty gritty work and re-work of ink on the page, THIS is where I feel most right in my own skin. It’s where the world starts to make sense (or, at least, make pretty satisfactory non-sense) to me.

I'm incredibly grateful for these strange and beautiful gifts from my loyal (if sometimes finicky) muse and I'm thankful as well for the unstoppable drive to bring these creations to life and offer them to the world.  Over the years, I’ve released 6 albums of original music, performed to audiences across North America and had the honor of collaborating on many other projects with scores of talented musicians I truly admire.  I love what I do.

The hard truth, though, is that making and releasing music requires money and, as we all know, the days of selling enough music directly to fans in order to keep making music (and even better, to make a living making music) are long gone. To get around this in the recent past, like many artists, I’ve typically worked for a few years on a new set of songs for an upcoming album and then launched an ambitious short-term crowd funder (like Kickstarter, Pledge Music etc) in order to record and release it. Truthfully, I found that method extremely stressful - and maybe you as supporters did too? The tight deadlines, frantic 11th hour pleas on social media and of course the project-crushing possibility of “not making your goal”. Not to mention that after all that, the hard-won proceeds cover just one album so we’re faced with the inevitable rinse-n-repeat for the next project.

I simply can't imagine NOT making music and art but I need to change up the revenue model if I'm to survive.  Patreon is a much lower stress, and more immediate way for me to directly fund my projects and share them with fans like you. When you become a Patron your monthly contribution (as low as just $3/month) funds my ongoing creations and gets you instant and exclusive access to them: new recordings not yet released to the public, lyric art, music videos, Patron-only livestream concerts, and more.

I'm ready to throw my whole heart into this adventure (and only a wee bit scared...but the GOOD kind, like the "what will we discover?!" sort of scared).  Will you join me?  Check out the levels of support above.  There is lots to choose from - depending on how far down the rabbit hole you'd like to go!

Yours, in melody and ink,

Andrea
