Manic Street Preachers: A Critical Discography [Visit the Site]

Manic Street Preachers are an iconic Welsh rock band formed in Blackwood, Caerphilly, in 1986. Since then, they have released 13 albums to date, most recently Resistance is Futile in April 2018.

The Critical Discography is one fan's effort to write about each song the band have released since their first single, 'Suicide Alley'. To date, the site has covered almost 200 singles, B-sides and album tracks, including all the released material up to 2006.

Inspired in part by Ian MacDonald's book about The Beatles, Revolution in the Head, the site looks at the musical and lyrical construction of each track, and is rich with background information. It tracks down the hundreds of sometimes arcane references made in the lyrics by Richey Edwards and Nicky Wire, from Marilyn Monroe to the MKULTRA programme. It also serves as a place for fans to discuss the songs, and to add their interpretations of the lyrics.

In 2019, the Critical Discography is resuming after a long silence. There are many more songs to cover, beginning with period surrounding the band's acclaimed 2007 LP Send Away the Tigers. This is a very large project and your support will help the site stay the course, right up to Resistance is Futile and into the future.

Thank you so much for reading the site - and, if you can - supporting it.

Stay beautiful.
