Hi. I'm Andy. I'm an independent event producer, except, maybe not so much right now. I've been producing events as my job for the last 12 years. It's most likely that you know me as the co-founder and producer of <a href="http://xoxofest.com">XOXO</a>, an experimental festival for independent artists who live and work online that takes place in Portland (almost) every September. Unfortunately, the coronavirus outbreak has put paid to basically everything I'm working on right now. <a href="https://xoxofest.com/blog/2020-xoxo-2020-is-canceled">We just decided to cancel this year's XOXO</a>, which provides the foundation of my income, and almost all of the events I'm working on for clients have been cancelled or postponed. <a href="https://pdx.eater.com/2020/1/3/21048756/suckerpunch-non-alcoholic-bar-portland">I've also been working on opening a zero-proof bar</a>, but, well, you get the idea. I really struggle with asking for help. Honestly, I feel ashamed that years of hard work haven't resulted in more stable financial circumstances. But XOXO has taught me that moments like this are exactly when I should ask for help. Opening up and embracing your community, especially when they're asking how they can support you, can bring strength and stability when you need it the most. I'm still trying to find my feet. But it's my hope that I can use this space to talk about the work I do and the things I'm passionate about. Maybe this isn't all bad. Maybe, in fact, it's an opportunity. I know I'm not alone in being impacted by this. Please, first and foremost, donate to those in dire need. Give to your local food bank, buy a gift card at your favorite local restaurant or cafe, or buy merch from your favorite independent artist.
