Who Am I?
Hello. Thanks for going through the effort of finding me here. You've probably seen me on ArtspanThe Black ListNaNoWriMoTwitter, or 30 Paintings in 30 Days. If we're just meeting, my name is Angie Grey. As of last year, I'm only a PT architectural drafter, choosing instead to focus the majority of my time on writing short stories, fiction novels, screenplays, and painting. Despite presently living in suburban Minneapolis, I've made my home in Memphis, Brooklyn, Colorado Springs, Orlando, and small town Dakotas. As a budget traveler, I've been to most parts of the country but preferred the coasts of Maine, Oregon, and the Carolinas. Cooler weather and seasonal changes suit me better.

What do I create?
Creating visually and textually are a powerful dimension of communication so when expressing myself I feel the excitement, pleasure, and spiritual gratitude for the impulse to inspire and bring about positive in the world along with happiness, love and a desire to make our world a more beautiful and colorful place to live in.

I do this on Patreon by offering glimpses, or participation, into my work and process, whether it be essays, short stories, screenplays, novels, or abstract expressionist acrylic paintings on canvas. Drama, romance, and YA are my genres of choice; lately, I've been more into whodunits. Typically, I don't dabble into science fiction, fantasy, or horror writing; however, I've a tendency to push and tug at boundaries.

I know my work is finished when I look at it, or read it, and feel a completeness of the essence of life. It makes me feel satisfied, content, and at peace with myself. When people view my art or read my work, I hope they find the beauty, the emotional dance, and the multi-color nature of the world around us.

How is it I came to create?
Formally, I studied Creative Writing and Fine Art at Normandale Community College, the University of Minnesota, and a lifetime of workshops with amazing teachers that continues to the present.

Why Patreon?
Since my ebooks are more popular than my printed books, I thought I'd streamline the connection between me and my readers (that make it possible for me to write) by offering digital download of each story or screenplay in PDF format. All the money I receive by my patrons here goes toward my ultimate dream of being able to make it full-time as a fiction writer. In addition, I can blog about the process, as well as personal happenings in one tidy spot. And I'm not forgetting to mention offering my abstract expressionist paintings at reduced prices compared to other sites on the internet. But you'll still be able to buy metal and canvas prints, yoga mats, checkbook covers and shower curtains on Saatchi or FineArtAmerica. Oh, yeah, as most of you that know me are aware, I’ve got a chronic, sometimes acute, mental illness, so I know that time is not to be wasted or treated carelessly and these are the years when I'm going to be doing my best work.

Why Give Me Your Monthly Support?
  • You're supporting a true indie author and blogger. I am committed to high-quality self-publishing online and in print. The more time I devote to it, the better it's getting.
  • You're helping a survivor of chronic, often acute, mental health issues. I have struggled with paranoid schizophrenia w/ depression and anxiety for most of my life, and I have worked hard to find a way to remain a creative, productive individual who contributes to my society. Creative, community-building writing and art is part of how I do that.
  • You're supporting the wider craft community by allowing me to continue sharing and supporting their work across social media and in my writing.
  • I'm no fly-by-night writer. Sometimes you don't know if you should fund someone independent because you don't know if they'll really keep creating. I've been self-employed as a writer for the better part of two decades, and my body of work continues growing and developing.
  • You'll play an important role in taking my writing work to the next level. Less time focused on raising funds means more time devoted to the true art of writing, creating art,  and connecting community together.
  • You'll be helping me to help others. As we reach milestones in this community, I donate my work to others.

Thank you.

You are making it able for me to focus time to create more fiction and art for you. There’s nothing more precious than time. I’d much rather be writing or painting than handling the publishing end of the business, let alone architectural drafting. If you're here to become a patron, or simply to spread the word of where you found me, I want you to know that I sincerely appreciate it.
