Hi!
I'm Angela, a visual artist and blogger.

I create large scale machine embroidered artworks that reflect on people's behavior within structures of power and in situations of emotional conflict, set in the context of past and current events, popular culture and mainstream media. This means in my artworks you will find Aquaman fighting plastic debris in the sea or Thor taking down the Berlin Wall. I expose outdated role models and mash up headlines from the past with current events, creating perfect matches that range from being outright scary to causing a good laugh.

But this is not all that keeps me busy. My research into popular culture and relating it to fine art finds its continuation in my blog “Angela, Looking at Art”, in which I take you, the reader, on a humorous journey through the world of contemporary art and how to make sense of it all. I write about exhibitions, specific artworks and curation – and sometimes even about my own works and research. But mind you, this is not your typical art review blog, since I don't tell you what you should see but rather relate my personal viewing experiences to mainstream movies and sentimental memories from my own past.

This is the moment were YOU come in as an active partner of my work as artist and blogger. You see, I am not only dependent on you as a contemplator of my artworks and a reader of my blog but I am also dependent on you as a patron. What can you do for me? As I said, you looking at my art and reading my blog, giving me feedback or taking in just for yourself what you have seen and read, is invaluable to me. Actually, this is why I create, this is why I became an artist and started my blog: to be able to give you something to enjoy, to think about, to talk about. But here's the thing. All this can only happen when I have the time to create and a budget to produce my works. With your help, no matter how small, I will be able to take the time to focus on my artworks and my blog. Instead of filling my daily hours with mindless minimum wage jobs that provide me with no future, your patronage will help me to become a successful independent artist and blogger. With your support I will be able to keep up talking about what's going on in our world today, put out works and words for discussion – inviting all of you to join me in my thoughts.

This would be amazing and a dream come true!

And if you were to have even some more dimes to spare, then you would not only enable me to quit my minimum wage job and fully focus on my work but to actually produce my artworks the way they are supposed to be. See, the works you will encounter on my website are digital masters for creating large-scale machine embroidered artworks. Embroidery as a technique and its unique aesthetic play a central role in the concept of my artworks. They are essential for my works and cannot be replaced with any other method or technique. Then why are there only – except for one so far – digital versions of those works you ask? The answer is simple: because machine embroideries on that scale (e.g. 120 cm x 90 cm) are expensive and without sponsoring or a budget from an exhibition space* I cannot produce those embroideries. An embroidery that size costs me approx. $1700.- to produce. So with every extra dollar that you are able to support me with, I can save up for another work to get embroidered and exhibited!

Being able to produce another large-scale embroidery artwork would be the ultimate goal and beyond what I could have ever wished for!

*For all of those wondering – I do exhibit widely in art spaces in Berlin and across Europe but mainly in independent, non-profit/ non-commercial galleries that do not have the budget to pay the artists nor to help cope with production costs.
