About Animal Ethics

At Animal Ethics we disseminate information and promote discussion and debate on topics in animal ethics, with a focus on the largely neglected issue of wild animals' living conditions. Most of the world's suffering takes place in the wild, and very few resources are devoted to studying or addressing the problem.

On the Animal Ethics website we provide educational and resource materials for students and scholars including articles, research reports, project plans, literature reviews, and bibliographies. Talks, seminars, and classes are given both online and in person. We also have a course about wild animal suffering on YouTube, and we have an accompanying ebook on our website. We think the course and ebook will be particularly useful for those involved in animal advocacy, by helping them to incorporate wild animal issues into their work. It can also benefit people who are already familiar with wild animal suffering and who want to learn more about how to get involved in work in this field. The ebook will be interesting to students and researchers in life sciences because it examines in detail how work in their areas could help wild animals.

In addition, we provide direct assistance in the form of funding and internships. We've given recent grants for projects related to helping animals in the wild. One focuses on helping stranded whales, another on the effects of fire on wild animals, and a third assesses the welfare, morbidity, and mortality of animals of different species across Canada.

In response to research we conducted on the attitudes of scientists, scholars, and students, we found that three promising areas of future scientific research are vaccinating wild animals, helping animals harmed by weather conditions, and urban welfare ecology, which is the study of wild and feral animals living in urban and suburban areas. We encourage scientists and students to work in these fields and we offer resources to help them get started.

Animal Ethics is distributed throughout the world, with especially active work in the United States, Spain, Brazil, and India. The organization was formed in 2012 and is registered in the United States (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_Ethics_(organization)) as a charitable organization.
