Who are you?
Hello! My name is Anna Laube. I write songs and play them at shows, in the recording studio, in people's living rooms, out in nature, and in front of a camera. I also love doing songs by other songwriters, from classic 60's rock and folk to new pop.
What is Patreon?
Patreon is a crowdfunding platform for independent artists. I'm REALLY excited about it. Patrons contribute (an often small, sometimes less small) set amount each month and I send them songs and videos. I actually write a ton more songs than ever go through the studio recording process and I want to share them AS WELL AS my studio recordings and videos. And maybe some other artsy surprises every now and again! I've been a patron for a few other artists for awhile now and I can see it revolutionizing the world of independent art.
Why would I pay for music and videos when I’ve been getting them for free?
Good question! I'll still be sharing new music and videos on places like Youtube, Spotify, Facebook, SoundCloud, Pandora, and my website like I have been, and of course there is no need to feel obliged to be a patron. Patronage just helps enable me continue to be a working musician as well as hiring other creators for collaborations (so fun!). I've been part-timing it (museum guard! studio hand! nanny! personal assistant! online editor!) in addition to working as much as I can on music (booking! press! recording! websites! songwriting! touring!) and would love to keep being able to make music the focus of my days. Plus, you don't get these cool rewards on the free sites (see below!).
I've heard of Patreon. But I thought it was per release, not per month?
Patreon gives creators the option to have patrons donate per release or per month. I chose to go with per month, which means I will send one or more creations a month but patrons will always donate the same amount and don't have to worry about how many times I'm sending stuff.
Do I have to pledge in US dollars?
NO - Use any currency you like! As this is a US-based website, everything is written in dollars, but you can use any currency and it will be automatically converted. Also,
