About Pedal Powered Anthropology

My name is Joe LyonWurm, and I'm an anthropologist.

With a background in Four-Fields Anthropology, I travel on bicycle to learn about the cultural significance, history, and events of the various areas to which I travel--documenting it all, and sharing what I learn along the way.

The basic idea is to get people excited about the world around them while simultaneously humanizing the people that study it.

What I’m up to:

If you’re a fan of my work and considering contributing, you might want to know what I’m doing with the money.

As of right now I have a lot of content on YouTube, Wordpress, Instagram, and Facebook, as also have two feature-length documentaries published to DVD with both home viewing and institutional licensing.

Here is the content I intend to post regularly, with the addition of patrons-only content and updates that will accompany most projects:

1-3 original images per week on Instagram. These will be related to the field of anthropology and may include production images, on-location images, travel shots, or general updates.
2 blog entries per month. Blog topics range from the four fields of anthropology, to video production, to the world of adventure cycling and more. Sometimes something will get me worked up and I’ll just have to make a big deal out of it.
1-2 new minor videos quarterly. Like my introduction to anthropology series? In similar format, these videos will be about 10-20 minutes and will cover themes or individual subjects within anthropology, and specific projects I’ve personally done.
1 major project per year. These may include feature length documentaries on DVD, podcast series, or (eventually) books.
On a daily basis I will be carefully vetting content from other publishers that fit within the general theme of anthropology. These will go on the Facebook page or in the group, or may even be the subject of blog posts.
And lastly, several times a year I am invited to guest speak or screen a documentary. I do my best to promote these events and ensure that they happen regularly so that as many people as possible have the opportunity to attend.

Started in May, 2017, Pedal Powered Anthropology has been getting attention from various museums, national parks, cycling advocacy groups, and colleges. With loads of content and interest only growing, I am looking to make Pedal Powered Anthropology self sustaining in order to devote more time to research and production in order to cover as wide a breadth of topics as possible and bring exciting, engaging, and fun content to an ever-growing audience base.

All contributions go directly towards the support and production of high-quality, interactive, and fun educational content with a strong commitment to ethical values and the added bonus of being able to interact with the person producing it. This is also known as "warm, fuzzy feelings."

The thing With Patreon:

Patreon is a service that allows you to directly support artists and creators you enjoy. It allows people to do the things they love while being funded by the people who love it. You will be charged monthly and are free to cancel at any point.

$49.51 of $50 per month
$50 per month seems a very attainable goal. Once Anthrospin hits this goal I will begin posting patrons only content at least once a month. Additionally, I will be able to tick down the price of my dvds by $5 each to allow more people to be able to afford all the cool bonus features only available on DVD.
