The gallery is devoted to presenting exemplary works primarily from emerging and undiscovered artists. The works are daring, provocative – and sometimes even controversial.
The space is a vibrant contributor to Charleston’s community and is often one of the most popular stops during monthly arts events. Beyond providing a source of entertainment and value to residents of Charleston, the unique nature of the gallery means that it is one of few venues available for the diverse population of emerging, contemporary West Virginian artists to exhibit their work.
Why We Need Your Help
Because of the type of artwork that Apartment Earth presents, including works from artists that aren’t able to command high price points and experientially-focused/installation works that are inherently challenging to sell, we are requesting your help with a monthly sustainer gift as a measure to help offset the costs to run the gallery space so that we may continue to operate in Charleston.
What We Need
We are looking for monthly sustainer gifts at the $1 to $10 levels to help offset operational expenses such as utilities, which average in excess of $250 each month, and human resources support to keep the gallery open for regular business hours throughout the month.
This is a stopgap solution while we seek to diversify our revenue streams, including:
- Offer regular workshops and classes.
- Building a better online presence to sell and promote our work.
- Diversifying the types of artwork and merchandise we sell.
- implement methods to cut our overhead costs, such as installing LED lighting.
We are working diligently every day to see that we are able to get to a self-sustaining point in the future.
Our primary goal is to obtain a baseline level of $500 per month in sustaining gifts as a measure to meet our operational needs (described in the “What We Need” section on this page) and keep the gallery running in Charleston.
If 23% of our Facebook followers give $1 per month or less than 5% of our followers give $5 per month – we have achieved this goal. Gifts in excess of $1 to $10 per month are welcome and appreciated. You may choose to change or stop your monthly giving at any time if your circumstances change.
$150 GOAL: LED Lighting is environmentally friendly as well as save money on monthly utilities.
$300 GOAL: Workshops are something we have provided in the past, but the lack of seed money for supplies have prevented us from continuing. At this level we will be able to resume quality workshops that will teach artists skills they may otherwise have trouble learning.
$350 GOAL: New Website would give us a more well rounded internet presence and help us sell work online.
$400 GOAL: 3 Days a Week being open would give the public a better chance to view the work and perhaps purchase something.
$500 GOAL: Keep the Gallery Open is honestly the real purpose of this campaign. I can no longer afford to keep the gallery open without your help due to ongoing medical expenses for my dog among other things.
$1000 GOAL: Return to Form at this goal level we would have no funding problems at all and could return to the more outside the box type programming we originally intended.
