Hello! You already know me as Bernie, Apartment Prepper. My blog, Apartment Prepper is all about preparing for emergencies (both major and minor ones) while living in a small space. I also write about DIY, and self-sufficiency projects you can do so you can be less reliant on commercial products.

Apartment Prepper's Back Story

Apartment Prepper Blog started back in 2010. After I experienced the fury and flooding of a hurricane for the first time, I realized how fragile our system really is.

The day before the hurricane was expected, I went to the store to pick up supplies. I saw long lines at the market and nothing but empty shelves. People were pushing and shoving their carts but there wasn't much left on the shelves. Soon after the hurricane, the roads were flooded and there were no truck deliveries. The supermarkets were closed for several days. When they reopened, many of the shelves were empty. I got a sick feeling in the pit when I found out stores only carry enough items to stock the shelves. There is nothing in the back room. I realized that if the truck deliveries are interrupted, there won't be anything to buy even if you had the cash.

I started researching "preparing for emergencies" on the internet and quickly got overwhelmed. The sites I found were geared to people with large houses or farms who have a lot more room that I do.  I figured people living in a big city, in a small apartment would want to prepare for emergencies as well. I decided to chronicle what works and what doesn't work for me, the good, bad or indifferent, and that is how the Apartment Prepper blog was born.

What's Going On Today

Apartment Prepper got a great start.  When I started the blog, people were still reeling from the great recession and worried about being prepared for disasters.  Readers felt a kinship as we were all in the same boat:  trying to prepare for emergencies, but not having a lot of space or cash. Since 2010, I have written over 1,000 articles, while working a full-time job. I receive many comments and emails about how much the blog has helped people be more prepared and feel more secure in their efforts to keep themselves and their families safe. I recently started a YouTube channel to reach a bigger audience.

Maintaining a blog involves many expenses and a huge time commitment.  While I am fortunate to have a good readership, it is more of a labor of love and not a self-sustaining business.

I considered quitting altogether, but my loyal readers have convinced me to find a way to keep going.

What is this Patreon for?

I started this Patreon page as a way to connect with my fellow Apartment Preppers and offer exclusive content to our small community.

Renters and homeowners, young and old - there is something for everyone. My site is non-political. Being prepared for large and small emergencies, financial, natural or man-made disasters applies to everyone, regardless of political views. I'll also be sharing DIY and self-sufficiency projects that you can do in a small space. I have decided to keep writing the free content on the blog, but providing detailed extras for Coffee Club Members.

Goal: $300 per month, to be used for DIY projects that we'll cover on this site, product reviews as well as blog maintenance.

How does Patreon work?

Patreon is a way for you to join me and other Apartment Preppers with as little as $2 per month, on a monthly basis. You can start and stop at any time. We have opportunities for different amounts, and you'll have access to exclusive patron only posts, photos, and giveaways.

I will share articles and videos exclusively for my Patreon supporters at least once a week. I'll also share recommendations and opinions just with my Patreon readers, so you will get more in-depth details.

I appreciate your support and thanks for visiting my Patreon page!
