AQNB is a not-for-profit editorial platform, committed to presenting fresh perspectives in the arts. Since 2013, we have established AQNB as an important resource for anyone interested in the diverse range of experimental and emerging practices taking place at the intersection of art, music and internet culture.

Our tightly coordinated production line is shared and administered by a committed and hard-working team of three. Through regular programming we maintain a space for an international network of artists and writers (the majority of them in the early-career stage), promote underrepresented voices and support critical thinking that tackles structural inequality in the industry.

Over the years we have seen our audience and community grow in visible ways. We now have healthy social media following, decent traffic and good relationships with a long list of contributing artists, curators, producers, and musicians; galleries, artist spaces, institutions, venues, festivals and labels. We have also established a modest income stream, acting as a media production service for hire to other arts organisations, that we then redirect into editorial costs.

It is only through the dedication and generosity of everyone involved that AQNB manages to continue. We do a lot on little funds. However, in figuring out ways to raise enough money to pay for everything it takes to reimburse writers for their efforts, run a large website and provide editorial support and we have hit an invisible brick wall.

The industry as a whole appears to be disintegrating fast, dominated by a corporatised media with little to no middle ground for independents. In addition, any public funding in the UK that could potentially plug this gap is increasingly difficult to obtain - particularly for niche editorial media. More than ever we need a resilient space, one that works in collaboration with its artists, administrators, and audiences in maintaining a community outside of commerce.

We have set up this Patreon as a way to make clear our situation and ask you - the people that take part in AQNB - for help and encouragement by way of a monthly subscription. All funds raised will go directly to pay for editorial commissioning and therefore support our contributors in their excellent work.

If all our community were to give just a small amount each then it would make an enormous difference. Not everyone can afford to give donations we know - but if you can spare $1 a month, you like what AQNB's about and you want to be part of securing this space for the future then please lend a hand and sign up.

Thanks so much and watch this space

AQNB is administered through these enormous spreadsheets that collate the 100s of emails we get every week. It takes about 2 full days to do this between us. If we reach 200 donors then we will be able to start up a monthly newsletter from these with news, listings and events.
