Architexts

is creating more webcomics!

Architexts is a webcomic about working in an architectural firm--not the glamorized version, the REAL version. Okay, maybe not that real all the time. The original run of the webcomic started in January 2010. As our lives got busier over the years, we made the tough decision to stop regularly publish comics. Our last comic was published in August 2017, but we've been around a little bit on social media.

It's been a while since that last comic was published, and we found we missed riffing on our beloved profession. After talking about it for a little while, we decided that we would start it up again here on Patreon. Why Patreon? Over the last few years we have gotten to know (and support) creators on Patreon, and believe this platform will give our fans the ability to get even more out of the webcomics we produce.

We have a passion for creating webcomics for you, and for over 7 years we produced nearly 3 comics a week. Creating comics at that rate was challenging while also being full-time architects. So, to start, we will produce one all new webcomic each month for everyone to enjoy, for free! If one new comic isn't enough, we have good news! Supporting us on Patreon will bring some extra self-deprecating humor to your inbox, while simultaneously helping us help us cover the expenses of restarting Architexts (e.g., web hosting, domain renewals, software subscriptions for comic art creation, etc.). We have created an initial set of tiers that offer something for everyone! Benefits start with include receiving extra comic(s) each month! We're also really excited to offer a tier that includes exclusive access to suggest ideas for comics to us. Yup, you read that right! It became clear to us that our experiences in the industry were shared by many, many others, and some of you may want the opportunity to memorialize certain experiences in Architexts. We've never done this before, and we can't wait to hear the ideas you all come up with!

This is only the beginning! The more patrons we have, the more we will be able to do to make Architexts even better. We have lots of ideas that we can't wait to share with you. If all goes well, we will set up goals that when reached will unlock new benefits, such as even more additional comics each month.

We are very excited to get this going again, and we hope you are excited, too! Please consider becoming a patron so Architexts can keep going.

About Architexts

For those who aren't familiar, Architexts tells the story of a fictitious architectural firm called Franklin + Newbury Architects, Inc. Their experiences are based on real-life experiences of architectural professionals. Franklin + Newbury Architects is a fairly typical firm, meaning that the projects aren’t all that exciting: tenant fit-outs, small commercial renovations, feasibility studies… not much new construction. The lack of exciting design work makes the young production staff jaded and cynical. They struggle with their seemingly mundane jobs and are constantly finding ways to amuse themselves to get through each day. They have antipathy for the bosses, who don’t seem motivated to pursue more exciting projects.

The production staff is made up of designers and drafters ranging from recent graduates in their early twenties who still have high expectations for their careers and the profession, to more experienced designers in their mid-thirties who would like to work in a better firm, but feel stuck. Your office may not be exactly like Franklin + Newbury Architects, but we are sure you will be able to relate to the situations and hijinks that occur.
