What is the money for?

$1 a month: You like what I'm doing, and you want to make it a little bit easier for me to put aside the time every day to do it. I don't have a book advance for The Little Little Key, yet -- I'd like to sell it, and I think I will sell it, if preliminary public opinion is anything to go by. (Which it's not. But it might be.) So, yes -- I'm going to work on this no matter whether I make a dime or not. But if your first thought when you saw the link to this project was "I would pay to see that!" then this is your chance to do that. And in return, I'm posting my notes, research, and development (and a fair bit of etc -- this ain't my first supernatural rodeo, after all) on a regular basis.

More than $1 a month: You are the sort of patron that might see more in this project than even I do, yet. I don't have a tier for you, right now, but you can pledge whatever amount you like, and you'll know that I'm going to see that and push myself just that much more. And if anything does come up, you can bet you're going to see it, first. I'm paying attention to you paying attention to me. And I appreciate it.

What am I DOING?

Oh, you know me, I've got a PLAN.

(You do know me, right? I'm assuming you've ended up here from one of my links, but I suppose it's possible you just woke up here and you have no idea what's going on. Maybe I should back up a bit, just in case.)

So this one time, I had an idea for a pretty  awesome project that was a perfect fit for Kickstarter. I had a nifty old book, and it had some lovely old demons in it. I wanted to restore the old images and design some cards -- and after that, I decided to translate the accompanying entries and research and expand those into some sort of book. The project was a complete success -- in fact, it was such a success that I ended up getting a book deal out of it, and you can find Cartes Infernales 2.0The Daemon Tarot ) on Amazon and Barnes & Noble and (hopefully) at your local bookstore.

So that's the back story -- let's talk about my next project.

There are 72 spirits in the Ars Goetia of the Lesser Key of Solomon, and I covered a fair few of them in the Cartes project -- but not all of them. And that's all well and good for President Malphas, but what about poor Prince Sitri? I do so hate leaving anyone out. It's just not fair. So, fine: I suppose I've got a direction for my next project.

But do we reeeaaaalllly need yet another interpretation of an interpretation of a translation that eventually roots back to Weyer's Pseudomonarchia Daemonum? I mean, these are some old, dusty, seriously user-unfriendly texts that have been well-explored by lots of experts.

But, there you go: Experts. As far as I know, no one's ever made a simple introduction to the Goetic spirits, written for children and fun-loving adults.

I'm making The Little Little Key, because every little magician needs to start somewhere.

So what do I need YOU for?

Company! Support! Feedback! Community! Fun! Adventure!*

First off: Company. I'm not going to lie to you: Cartes Infernales got done because I wasn't trying to do it in a vacuum. I had an amazing group of backers keeping me engaged and on track. Every time I posted an update I was reminded that there were people waiting for more, and that is a very important thing for a creator to have. We can bundle feedback, community, fun, and adventure into this point, too. It all comes down to "I'm going somewhere, and I'd really like you to come with me."

Now, "support" means "are we doing okay?" -- but I am on Patreon for a reason: it also means that I've got a full-time job and a big dog that needs feeding and all the normal bills and whatsits that everyone else has, and somehow I've got to carve out a chunk of every day to get this project done. And when you're a freelancer, you tend to prioritize tasks by what buys food, first. But you're not just here to pay me for work I'd be doing anyway (eventually). I wouldn't have brought you here if I didn't have something to offer YOU in exchange.

*NB: Your definition of "adventure" may differ from mine. I'm a writer, researcher, and designer. My kind don't get out, much.

Before you go:

THANK YOU. It's a big deal, to me, that you even showed up to read this. I'm already having fun, and we're just getting started.* And if you decide to jump on and become a patron, too, that's even MORE appreciated. It would also be really great if you spread this link around -- Twitter, Facebook, post to your blog, mention it at your weekly game night -- let's get lots of eyeballs, yeah?

*But maybe you're NOT interested. That's totally cool, too. In fact, I'm amazed you read this far if this isn't your thing, so EXTRA THANK YOU. But if you know of someone you think might be interested, it'd be really awesome if you sent them the link to this page.
