Guys. I say a lot of really stupid things when we're filming that, thankfully, don't make the cut. When we hit this goal, those stupid things will be published once a month in a special behind-the-scenes blooper reel;)
I'll make a video cover of Frozen's Let It Go.

Hey loves!
I’m so glad you found me here:)

In case you don’t know me very well, I am a touring musician, songwriter, fashion designer, and matcha green tea lover.

I want to tell you my story.
About a year and a half ago, I started a weekly video podcast called The REL Show. I had been looking for a new way to connect to my community of fans, because I realized there was only so much that I could fit into a 3 minute song, or a 30 second meet-and-greet. I was having conversations with you guys after the show while me and boys were loading up the trailer, I was getting messages from you guys on my Etsy shop, and I was interacting with you on twitter. Throughout these brilliant and brief conversations, I realized I had a lot more to say to you. I wanted to keep the conversation going.

So, The REL Show was born. And-it worked! I was thrilled to see the little five minute weekly videos turn into a real two-way conversation between myself and the viewers. I’d tweet out asking for episode topics, you’d respond with some killer content ideas. I’d end the videos with a question about what I’d just talked about, and you’d leave these brilliant comments that would blow my mind. The show went from getting a few hundred views per week to a few thousand.

Here’s where the story gets not-so-great. I don’t know if you heard, but a few months back I had to take a break from filming The REL Show. This was a really hard decision-it broke my heart!- and I was blown away to see how many of you CARED and NOTICED and SAID SOMETHING. I realized that this show meant something to a lot of you, because everybody kept asking, “Where did The REL Show go?"

So I put the truth out there, the not-so-glamorus facts: Filming a new episode every week had become overwhelming, and was taking more and more of my time. We had spent money on lighting, sound, and a fancy camera, and it took a lot of time to learn how to make the show look good. Every episode was taking at least a whole day to research, prep, script, & film-because, admittedly, we’re not exactly film/podcast experts, but we still wanted it to look good for you guys. (Well, most of the time. A few episodes I totally cheated on and just used my built-in Mac camera in a dimly lit backstage…I still cringe when I watch those.) It got to a point where it’d be Sunday night and I’d suddenly be like “Omg crap we have to film The REL Show tomorrow!” -and I’d have *no idea* what I wanted to talk about. I didn’t want to let you guys down so I’d stay up all night putting something together.

I kept going because I loved doing it, but I couldn’t keep it running by myself, forever. The thing is, we do this podcast completely for free. In fact, it costs us hundreds of dollars to make each episode! Between touring, running Custom Catastrophes to pay the bills, working on music, and keeping in touch with the fans through Icon’s and my personal social media, I realized it was getting a little out of hand to invest so much time and money into something that couldn’t help pay for itself.

-->And recently, it occurred to me that it didn’t have to be that way.

Thousands of people enjoy The REL Show every week, and I wondered….would they be willing to be a part of it? Would people be willing to go from casual viewers to active participants?

I have decided to find out.

I have the passion. I have a head full of a million different ideas, topics I want to talk about, tutorials I want to make, issues I want to shed light on. I am ready.

I need you. I need you!

If you’d be willing to support this thing with a couple bucks per episode, we could take this to a whole new level. It wouldn’t be something I have to throw together on Sunday night after I’ve spent all week working on Custom Catastrophes, it could become a central focus. This means better content for you, and more sanity for me:)

I know in this digital age we are used to getting so much content FOR FREE, but I’m asking you to back this thing loud and proud-and put your money where it counts, baby. Your love and views mean a whole freaking lot, but regretfully, LOVE doesn’t pay the power bill, know what I’m saying?!

I’m not charging for The REL Show-it’s still free-I’m just asking for your help.

Some of you don’t have anything extra to give-I get that! Don’t feel like you have to give anything if you don’t want to. Some of you probably remember what it’s like to want to help but not have any money-and maybe some of you can chip in a little more to help. If the show has helped you out in the past, if you like looking forward to a new episode every week, this is your way to be a part of it, and guarantee it continues to help inspire more people.

So…would you partner with me on this? Would you help make this happen?
(If you can’t give financially, that’s ok, and I hope The REL Show continues to help and inspire you none the less….and maybe one day when you get super rich you can pay it forward to another artist who needs your help!)

But, if you CAN give financially, please DO, and help be a part of this beautiful artistic exchange.
And, to all of you, thank you. Thank you for believing in me, for supporting me, for letting me make art.

I love you always!
xOxO,
Ariel

PS-I’ve put together some fun rewards, just to show you I love you, but I’ve got a feeling most of you are so awesome that it isn’t even about the rewards for you.

FAQs

How does this work? I don’t get it!!
Here’s how it works: You pledge an amount, say $5 bucks a video. (Thank you.). I generally release one video a week, 4 a month, so you'll be charged $20 at the end of the month (because this is less annoying then literally getting your account zapped for $5 every week).  I don't always manage to make weekly vid when we’re on tour, despite my best intentions, because, well touring always screws with my best intentions. If I don't make a new episode that week, you don't get charged!

How much money do you need?
If we keep going at our current operating level, we need about $300 per episode. That means we can continue offering weekly videos of the same quality, and take care of the guy behind the camera, my buddy who hosts the content via iTunes, and make me feel a little better about the hours I’m putting into it. If we end up getting more than $300 per episode, it means we get to dream bigger. We can offer more detailed tutorials (on things like sewing, hair dye, beauty, fashion, smoothie making, music, etc), more interesting locations (can someone say-FIELD TRIPS!), and higher quality videos (so you can see that pink hair in high def, of course).

What if you feel SUPER INSPIRED at some point and release like ten episodes one month? Do I have to pay for all those?
Not at all. You can cap your amount-so even if I magically start making more than one per week (which would be awesome), you’d be capped at, say $12 a month.

What about people who pledge something, get their reward, and then UNPLEDGE? Can they do that??
I suppose that’s totally possible. But I have enough faith in humanity to believe you’ve got a good heart, and wouldn’t be here if you didn’t genuinely want to help. I trust you.
