Milestone Goals
Geek Out on Google Hangout
I'll host a monthly Google Hangout for all my Patreons to geek out with me about space and science! I'm personally super excited for this to happen!
Special Guest Geek Out
I'll bring in geeky awesome guests to the monthly Google Hangouts. SETI scientists, biohackers, particle physicists, artists and others who are making awesome things happen in the world.
Going Global
If I reach this amount per month, I'll travel to different cities around the world to help grow budding science enthusiast communities and instigate the creation of more Science Hack Days. In the past, I've received small, one-off grants to do this that have allowed me to travel to Colombia, China, Kenya, Madagascar, Mexico and South Africa, but I'd like to keep the momentum going! My passion is in working with communities around the globe and I want to share the journey with all of you!

Hello! I’m Ariel.
I create things that make space exploration and science disruptively accessible. Spacehack.org, Spaceprob.es, and the Democratized Science Instrumentation Guidebook are among my portfolio of projects. I also am the global instigator of Science Hack Day, a 19-countries-and-growing grassroots endeavor. The video above is from a project I did with the SyFy channel as part of their Let's Imagine Greater campaign. You can see most of my work here on my website.
I make "massively multiplayer science".
I instigate unusual collaborations that spark clever creations for science and space exploration. I travel a lot to help bring people together. My work with Science Hack Day has taken me to Colombia, China, Kenya, Madagascar, Mexico and South Africa to help grow budding science enthusiast communities. Ever since I unexpectedly stumbled into a job at NASA despite having no formal science background (I was an art school student who worked at an ad agency), my mission is now to enlighten others on how anyone can actively contribute to the furthering of science. This includes scientists as well: getting researchers to apply themselves to entirely different areas of science. My goal is to build a future that harnesses people’s existing interests, skills and backgrounds for producing serendipitous and unexpected scientific discoveries. For me, it's about elevating the awesomeness of people, not products.
You can help!
I will forever be creating new, free, useful, open and playful community resources and experiences. But, I'm independent and most of what I do is unpaid – from spending two years serving on a congressionally-requested committee to advise the nation on the future of human spaceflight, to building and managing projects like Spaceprob.es and Spacehack.org. This is sometimes a difficult path to walk financially. There are no job descriptions for what I do. Organizations fail to accommodate people like myself who are not only multidisciplinary but also multi-versed. I will continue to get excited and make things with science no matter what, but my patrons help keep me going and inform me on what I should do next!
Welcome to my brain.
You'll get access to my Patreon-only feed where I'll be posting cool and weird stuff, random ideas and asking for your advice. I'm kinda like quarks - I have ups and downs and you might find me strange, yet charming. This whole endeavor is about how I want to MAKE AWESOME THINGS WITH SCIENCE, help others make awesome things with science, and get it out there. Like all of my projects, this Patreon initiative is an experiment. We can change the Patreon formula along the way if people have fun new ideas for different levels, etc. I'm viewing this as a way for all of us to be connected and keep in touch.
I've got a LOT of projects in my crosshairs that I'm dying to share with all of you. Some are "smaller" one-offs: creating useful guidebooks, delightful science-y websites, videos, posts, unique events and the like. Others are long-term undertakings: working in Antarctica, writing books, creating/hosting an Anthony Bourdain-style science TV show, etc. And many are modest projects that could turn into something MUCH LARGER with the help of all of you. I'm also eager to hear if you all have ideas for things I should consider doing next.
