Launched in January 2010, ARLnow.com is Arlington, Virginia's most-read and most-talked-about local news outlet. We cover everything from local government to breaking news to business openings to community affairs.

Even though we've won awards for our online-only local coverage, we know we can do better. Our advertising-driven business model supports a small staff and lets us keep our news coverage free for everyone to read. But there's more we would love to do -- including in-depth looks into local issues, profiles of those doing great work in the community, and compelling multimedia productions.

That's why we've created this Pateron: to act as a community journalism fund -- letting readers who want to elevate the quality of local journalism in Arlington help us make it happen.

We've created two tiers for readers, each offering an insider view of what happens behind the scenes at ARLnow -- and a private forum to discuss local issues with fellow members and tell us how we're doing. There’s also an option for local businesses that would like to support our work, and be recognized for that support, but without becoming an advertising client.

The majority of proceeds from our Patreon will be spent directly on hiring talented local journalists (freelancers to start, possibly full-time employees should we meet certain milestones) to produce *additional* news coverage beyond what our full-time staff currently produces. The remainder will used to help defray overhead costs like office space, web development and hosting, etc. -- thus stabilizing monthly budgets amid the ups and downs of the advertising market and giving us the flexibility to make staff additions earlier.

This site was started with a simple goal: help Arlingtonians stay informed about what's happening locally. With your support, we can take ARLnow to a new level of community service. We appreciate every single reader we have and would be thrilled to have you as patrons as well. Thank you!
