Chalk it up
Fresh chalk makes a difference. Every little bit helps. Even knowing that you were interested enough to stop by our page buoys our spirits...
But there is a cost to even asking for funds to purchase chalk.
By the time you click through your sponsorship, this minimum contribution will already be whittled down to almost $2.50 through platform and processing fees. Then there are state and local business taxes and later, federal taxes as well.
Are we wrong to talk numbers?
We don't think so, because we want to help other artists, especially young artists and those who are just starting to build arts communities and community art, understand the nuts and bolts of bringing their vision to reality and developing sustainable programs and projects.
So yes, thank you very much for the box of chalk you just helped us purchase this month. We need it! Especially blue. That is a favorite color in the sidewalk chalk garden.
We are happy to mail you a personal thank you for your contribution, but only once, because postcard stamps are at least 35 cents these days!
Thank you for your interest and support
During our free events, people of all ages use studio materials and supplies to create original art and learn new techniques even if there is no room in their budget for "non-essentials."
You get that tiny drops in a bucket from people who have something extra in their pocket can mean a lot over time to those who don't.
As important, all-comers of all-ages get to exist in comfort in a public space without worrying about how much this is all costing them. And if you have ever walked into a store or restaurant as a family with young children...
...you get that not worrying about the cost of a child's happiness may be priceless.
You also get a personal thank you sent snail-mail.
Make it So
$100 a month covers the facility and staffing cost to run a free, family-friendly, 6-hour hands-on arts and crafts event.
Every free event happens because our family is committed to sharing the opportunity to explore and experiment with art to all-comers regardless of income. You join us in this mission and help us spread our reach farther.
If you so choose, you will receive a special thank you in a public recognition post. You may also elect to receive a mailed thank you post-card.
About ART HQx
Our main hustle on Patreon is keeping the lights on for "Free Space/Open Studio," no-cost open-studio hours welcoming all-comers on Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm and Thursdays from 6-8pm held weekly at our anchor location in a small southwest Washington seaport town, population 8,500.
We believe that there are other people out there like us who value free access to arts experiences for all regardless of age, income, or geographic location. We also think that Patreon may be a viable way to connect with such philanthropic folks even though we are located in an isolated geographic region with a small population.
Our family of four humans (plus three rescue cats and seven chickens) has pledged to maintain ART HQx through August 2021. Due to corona-virus impacts and school schedules for children, we are currently able to staff 30 hours a month of free open-studio access to all-comers on a month-to-month basis. We greatly hope to be joined by others of similar mind so that we can announce expanded open-studio hours months in advance and even increase the type of free activities we can offer.
We are also business-minded and currently operate as a sole-proprietorship, although we are interested in partnering with non-profit organizations or developing as a non-profit in the future. Our space, when it is not booked for open-studio or community meetings, is available to rent for birthday parties, arts and crafts events, as a practice space and even for small performances.
Even if you are unable to contribute financially, you are always welcome to visit the studio at
413 7th Hoquiam Washington
We also gratefully accept donations of miscellaneous non-toxic art materials Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm and Thursdays from 6-8pm.
