Milestone Goals
Additional Costumes
$115 per month
At this goal, I can create one additional costume per month, or one more intricate costume every two months.
Vlogs
$230 per month
At this goal, I will begin making vlogs and video diaries about my costume making, as well as review conventions and events I attend!
Local Con/Updated Equipment
$460 per month
This goal pays for a badge and travel to a local con (near Chicago, New York or Boston, where I have family I can stay with), OR, updated equipment like a new sewing machine (RIP my old one during Chicago Comic Con), a serger, an embroidery machine, etc., which also allows me to add new items to my store and work on my own costumes.
Non-Local Convention/Booth
$920 per month
This goal pays for badge, travel and accommodations at a non-local con (ie somewhere I don't have family/friends to stay with), OR, allows me to have a booth at a convention, to sell prints, shirts and costumes.

$2,300 per month
At this goal, I am able to afford to attend an international convention!

About

The creator/cosplayer behind Ask Kaylee Frye is a person named Maya Dinerstein. Besides her secret dream to play Kaylee Frye in the inevitable prequel to Firefly, she plans on going into costuming for film/Tv or social media. She doesn’t actually really know anything about mechanics, but shh, that’s a secret.
Her Kaylee Frye cosplay debuted at New York Comic Con in 2012.

Hey there, and welcome to my Patreon page! My name is Maya, but a lot of people know me as Ask Kaylee Frye, or at least that girl who really looks like Kaylee from Firefly.

I have been cosplaying since New York Comic Con 2012, and besides people convinced that I am Jewel Staite, the number one question I get is whether I do “this” professionally. The short answer is, I’d love to! The longer answer is no, because unlike Disney princesses, super heroes and Jack Sparrow, there isn’t really a market out there for Firefly cosplayers. I have managed to make a bit of money with my Etsy store, and I’ve also taken commissions for costumes from friends, but nowhere near enough to support myself. Up until last winter, when I got incredibly busy with school and part-time jobs, I also made gifs where I answered questions in character as Kaylee on my tumblr.

I would love to keep doing all of these things, but because I am a student and working to pay bills and feed myself, I don’t have a lot of money to buy supplies for costumes, or go to conventions to showcase these costumes. So, I’ve opened up this Patreon account where you can support me, and be a Patron of the costumes I am creating. In exchange for supporting me, you’ll get content that no one else gets to see, including sketches and drawings I do when I am planning out costumes, tutorials on some of the things I make, and even a voice in deciding the next costume I make! You’ll also get to see costumes and photoshoots way before anyone of my other fans.

I’ve also got a couple goals I’m shooting for, including going to cons in cities (and countries!) I’ve never been to; updated sewing equipment; and eventually being able to have my own booth at conventions. These are goals that I am working and saving towards on my own, but your support means that I will achieve them faster.

Thank you so much for being a fan, watching this, and for contributing to help me continue making costumes. You are all incredibly shiny folk, and everything you do makes me a very happy Kaylee!
