Greetings! My name is Artur Śmiarowski and I'm the creator of Soulash, a fantasy roguelike where you take the role of a forgotten god set on destroying the world. I've been a programmer since 2008 and I've been working on many different prototypes since then, but for the past couple of years, I've been spending my free time building Soulash and its sequel.
<br><br><h4>What am I making?</h4><br>Soulash 2 is the second project I've begun working on after the release of <a href="https://store.steampowered.com/app/1623210/Soulash">Soulash on Steam</a>. Soulash is a very combat-focused game, where almost all systems support that direction. The primary purpose is to conquer and potentially destroy a fantasy world. A very simple premise that I was able to finish working after the full-time job and finance mostly from my web development income. Soon after the successful release, I decided to give game development a serious try, going full-time. In 2021 we had a <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/asmiarowski/soulash-classic-fantasy-roguelike">failed Kickstarter campaign</a> that we hoped would allow us to take Soulash to the next level - Procedural World, Factions, Servants, Building, and more. Only after the Steam release we've managed to acquire enough funds to try this. However, since the game was complete, many of the doors for expansions were closed, and can't be open again without removing a big chunk of the game. That's why I've decided to start a sequel that would be built with these features in mind from the ground up.<br><br>Soulash 2 will be an RPG game with traditional roguelike features, taking inspiration from Soulash, Mount &amp; Blade, and Dwarf Fortress Adventure mode. You can follow the game development by reading our <a href="https://www.patreon.com/posts/66035797" target="_blank">devlog posts here</a>.<br><br><h4>Why Patreon?</h4><br>Games like these have infinite potential that is only limited by two factors - time and money. I had to reduce the potential of Soulash due to money constraints, as I worked two jobs for five years until it was too difficult due to health problems. Patreon is my attempt to break the cycle of releasing multiple games but instead perfecting one. Traditional roguelikes are very niche games but with huge potential. Some of such games offer incredible, unique stories that can only happen inside their worlds. This is my direction with Soulash as well. To add extensive features like factions, procedural world generator, building, servants, skill-based character progression, and after we have a game that can happen in a living world, where NPCs have their own goals, where you have many more ways to choose to play through the game than just destroy everything in your path, that's when we will concentrate on the details that make these stories truly memorable. Such a game is a life's work, and it's very difficult to commit to such an extent just during the free time, with only own funds and time, for decades, offering to trade that for the price of an indie game. The only way these types of games can be created is through the support of their fans.
