Averting the Flame Wars is a comic-illustrated blog about how to communicate clearly, disagree respectfully, and understand where other people are coming from on the internet. We think constructive discourse is a skill you can study, not something everyone can do just by trying hard. We’re here to teach you what we know about that skill. Our advice doesn’t apply to every situation but we hope it comes in handy. This blog is primarily written by Melanie Odhner and co-written and illustrated by Sylvia Odhner (we are sisters). We both equally own and stand behind everything on the blog.

Why we need money: This blog will always be free to read, so no one is obligated to give us money, but if you do pledge to us, we really appreciate it! We are both currently self-employed, and getting paid for the time we spend doing this blog will allow us to spend more time working on it. So the more money we make through Patreon, the more content we can put out. Since we don't know how often we'll be posting, we collect pledges for every full blog post (each series installment counts as a whole post). You can set your own monthly limit. We'll never post more than one of these per week, so if you pledge $1 with no monthly limit, you may be charged up to $4 or $5 a month at most.

Patreon is for repeat donations. If you would like to make a one-time donation, you can send money through PayPal to [email protected], or use the PayPal button on our blog. Thank you all so very much!
