Introduction

Welcome! My name is Kate Fann. I am a Young Adult Author, Ghostwriter, Blogger, Content Writer, and Social Media Enthusiast. I have been a writer and a reader for as long as I can remember. Working in the creative arts was always in the cards for me. It’s exactly where I belong! I am so excited to be coming out with my debut novel later this year and help fellow creative entrepreneurs navigate the world of writing, social media, working from home, and caring for yourself along the way.

My Writing Journey

I have always known I wanted to become a writer, ever since I was a little girl. I would write stories starting in middle school but it wasn't until 2007, when I was just out of high school, that I finally put fingers to keys and started writing down my ideas. I mostly did it as a hobby. I had all these ideas bouncing around and I felt compelled to work them out. Throughout the years, I worked with these stories on-and-off. I worked heavily on them in 2007, 2008, and part of 2009 (until I went to college). Then again in 2012-2013 when I was out of college. Life kind of got a hold of me and I wasn't able to dedicate my time to it. But, more on what made me buckle down and get serious about my writing to come later.

My Debut Novel

When I first began my writing journey in 2007, I started with a story that was inspired by my favorite TV show, One Tree Hill. My novel is a story about a girl in high school named Autumn. When the story first came to mind, it was about Autumn in her senior year of high school. As I started plotting things out and getting a bit of her background history together, I realized I actually had a series on my hands! So, I began writing her story starting with her freshman year.

To answer your question, yes, I started this novel in 2007, over 10 years ago. This story and these characters have been on my heart for a long time. I've actually written the first story probably 3 times all the way through. It was never great. There have been some rewrites along the way. When I started this story again in April 2018 during Camp NaNo, I revamped a lot of my ideas.

While my intention was initially to have each year of Autumn's high school journey consist of one book, I've had to make some changes! After doing Camp NaNo again in April 2019, I had the intention of completing the story. But there was still so much to tell! I was at 75,000 words and still not close to done. For a young adult novel, 100,000 words is a lot! I vowed to at least get through this year for Autumn and figure it out.

But, as I was working on my story during July 2019 Camp NaNo, I realized this part of the story had such a different tone than the first half. Then I had an epiphany. These were two separate stories. That meant one very exciting thing: I had finished my first draft.

One of my goals for 2019 was to self-publish my first novel. I am now well on my way to reaching that goal! As a Patron, you will get the first to know about everything related to my novel.

Behind the Laptop

I share plenty about my life as a writer, author, and freelancer. But there is so much more to my life than those things! As an authorpreneur, I am so appreciative of all my patrons. I want you to know who else you are helping behind the scenes.

My family means so much to me. I am a mom to an adorable 1½-year-old boy named Quinn. He loves books and reading so much. He certainly takes after me! Quinn is part of the reason I decided to finally pursue this author dream of mine. I've wanted to be a writer ever since I was a child. I started writing as a hobby in 2007, but my work was sporadic. By the time I had my son, it was 2017, and I hadn't actively worked on my writing in almost two years. While I was on maternity leave, I was looking at this sweet little man and just thought about how much I love him and how I want him to do whatever he desires in life. I want him to follow his dreams! Then an epiphany came. If I want that for my son, I need to show him that it can be done. That's when I decided I had to make my dream a reality.

I am married to my greatest support system, my husband Casey. He is a very creative and optimistic person, just like me. Not only do I get to go through my journey of life with him, but he also doubles as my personal editor and business partner. He's been instrumental in helping me see my journey of authorship come to fruition. Having a solid support system is so huge and I am more than thankful that I have him by my side as my personal cheerleader.

Thank You!

Seriously, from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you. I appreciate having you as my patron more than I can express. Being able to afford to pursue my dreams means the world to me. It's not something I take lightly. So thank you for being here and supporting my dream!
